Xiaomi shows off 49-inch 3D 4K TV for just $640 Xiaomi, the innovative Chinese company that appears to be able to undercut literally any price in the hardware world, has unveiled its smart MI TV 2, a 49-inch 4K 3D television that will sell for just CN3,999 ($640 USD).
The smart TV runs on an Android variant with the company's own TV user interface attached, and allows for sideloading of TV apps.

Powering the TV is a MediaTek MStar 6A918 chip (1.45GHz quad-core CPU, Mali-450 MP4 GPU), 2GB RAM and 8GB internal storage, although there is a microSD slot if you need more space. The TV is just 15.5mm thick.

Even the remote is innovative, as it uses Bluetooth LE, and the TV, if tapped on the bottom, will make the remote beep if you cannot find it around the house. You can also use an Bluetooth-enabled smartphone as a remote using Xiaomi's app, which includes voice and gesture control.

Being that the TV is so thin, the company says they had to separate the audio including a Bluetooth sub-woofer and a wired audio bar. The setup can be used with your mobile devices via Bluetooth, as well, which is very cool.

Chinese buyers can get the item starting on May 27th, but like other Xiaomi products, it likely will not make it out of the country.

That's f**king awesome...if they sent it to the states they could jack up the price by $200 and still have a great deal.

No kidding; that's pretty sick. Too bad we will never see it out of China.

Agreed... f**king awesome.

Apart from the screen the rest is just the bog-standard mobile hardware config, Raspberry Pi type thing. I suppose it even has a name nowadays. No wonder OUYA wants to become platform independent. Am I making sense? :)

It sucks that it won't come out of China. I wonder what that price is like for the average Chinese citizen?

Its a lot easier being righteous than right.

Most TVs (and electronics in general) are made under such conditions...but usually the profits are passed along to the CEO's and stockholders instead of the consumers. Plus they usually want to charge an extra $300 for a bt soundbar, $125 for a good remote, and then they put some terrible UI on it.

All I wonder about is the quality...4K support is different than 4K and when we first got 1080P there were a ton of cheap TVs that were sold as 1080P when the actual displays were 480i.
