Sony's HDR-compatible Android TV 4K TVs are headed to the U.S A year after launching their first 4K TV sets, Sony is now taking pre-orders for six new HDR-compatible 4K sets ranging from 43-inches to 75-inches.
"Sony has always been the leader in 4K and our exclusive Sony technologies have been at the core of providing TV lovers with the best picture quality, no matter what content they are watching. Our decade of experience allows us to now improve color accuracy and clarity even better than before," said Taka Fujita, vice president of home entertainment and sound at Sony Electronics. "And now, by pairing our unrivaled picture quality with Android TV, we are setting out to provide our customers with the best user experience possible."

In case you didn't catch that, the new TVs will run on Google's Android TV platform that offers connectivity to Google Play, casting features, Android gaming and the ability to use your Android phone as a remote.

Adds Sony: "The full 2015 4K Ultra HD lineup is powered by the X1 processor engine, maximizing contrast, color and clarity in both HD and 4K content. While Sony TVs have had expanded color, brightness range and upscaling for years, the X1 processor takes another step forward in improving these features. Thanks to X-Reality™ PRO Picture Engine, developed from over ten years of experience in upscaling, all existing HD content is upscaled to super clear 4K quality. And TRILUMINOS™, found on the X850C series and up, provides the widest color range ever and dynamic color correction ensures colors are as consistent and accurate as possible."

The X930C and X940C will support High Dynamic Range (HDR) content that offers a wider range of colors.

basically it turns all your movies and shows into a over contrasted mess that look like that cartoon setting your cellphone camera has.

What ever happened to sticking to one color format and leaving it the fuck alone. all this brighten this, enhance that, super duper color mode is really starting to grate on my nerves.

Oh man......when is the general public going to acknowledge that 4K is a gimmick. It's on smaller devices more and more, has very little supported media on mainstream devices like home players, is way expensive and last but not least............has a NEGLIGIBLE difference between 1080p and 4K. Certainly not a difference to merit an extra 2 grand.

Pffft! 4K is dead before it even was brought to life.

8K "MIGHT" do something but it's nonsense and those that buy into it are fools, plain and simple. This of course excludes those that bought new TVs and pretty much had no choice but to pick a set up that has 4K capability because it was coupled with other features needed/wanted.

Seriously! If they can't make the demo versions in the stores look half decent with upscaling what makes people think they will work better at home with cable tv.
