Apple Watch Edition to cost over $30,000 in Brazil

If you are currently residing in Brazil and are looking to get the trendiest and most expensive smartwatch out there, the Apple Watch, you better have a fat wallet.
Thanks to huge import tariffs designed to protect local businesses, and a volatile local currency, the Apple Watch Edition that costs $17,000 in the U.S. will set you back over $30,000 in Brazil.

Even the cheapest Apple Watch, the Sport edition that retails for $349 in the States will cost you $625 in South America's most populous country.

This is not the first time we've seen a mind blowing number for an electronic device in Brazil. Last year, gaming fans had to drop over $1800 to purchase the Sony PlayStation 4 that retailed for $399.

If you are currently residing in the US and you want the thing, you better have a fat wallet...it costs more than a new Toyota Corolla. Once you are paying new car price for a piece of jewelery, it is nothing but a status symbol...so better to pay more so it is more of a status symbol. They should make a $1,000,000 version of it loaded with diamonds and such...it wouldn't sell a lot of units, but it would certainly sell enough to justify the creation of the thing...and maybe it would hurt the wrist of anyone shallow enough to buy one. :)

There is usually some company that creates an over the top, diamond encrusted version of an iDevice or other cell phone. I recall seeing iPhones with gemstones all over them. Perhaps only a few are made - but some idiot buys them. I'm sure there will be a diamond studded Apple Watch available in the next couple of months.

There was a diamond and ruby encrusted gold PSP released back in the day. It was a much better value than any iDevice. ;)
