Do Trump's policies with China create a trade war?

Do Trump's policies with China create a trade war? President elect Donald Trump has been criticizing the deals the US has made with China during nearly the entire election cycle. Accusing China of manipulating their currency, Trump wants stricter trade deals with the Asian powerhouse.
According to an op-ed in Global Times this could mean a trade war with severe consequences. The 45 percent tariff, promised by Trump, is not a realistic increase without the country being in a state of emergency. However an increase to 15 percent for a limited time is possible as well as product specific tariffs.

This however would mean that in response China would impose their own restrictions and that would lead into a trade war that wouldn't benefit either side, Global Times writes. Increasing the tariff could affect the sales of for example Boeing and Apple.

The paper suggests that this is probably just Trump's campaign rhetoric that will never see the light of day.

They like to talk about how the US wouldn't be able to sell as much to china, but that ignores the insane trade deficit the US has to china. Even economists admit this is a bad thing for the US, the technical term being leakages, which multiply themselves multiple times. It also ignores the massive amount of IP theft in China...for example, Microsoft doesn't even bother trying to sell windows in China because they know even the government will pirate it. This is not limited to software of course...everything from small toys to microchips to cars and now a fighter jet has been copied.

Given all this, it can easily be argued that reducing or even ending trade with china would be good for the US, at least in economic terms...politically it is full of problems of course.

We've been in a 'trade war' for quite a long time and we're losing. Only brightside is that HRC is done! I'd prefer to see her in prison, but she's too corrupt for prison.

Trump has been accused of rape by at least two women. He is accused of sexual harassment by 11 women.

He bribed the Florida Attorney General who was investigating Trump University into dropping the investigation.

At least Obama ran a clean, scandal-free office.

When you lose your job and healthcare benefits, don't be cryin'.

Wow...talk about a short memory, he isn't even out of office yet!

Didn't close Guantanamo
Benghazi
Spying on the press
IRS targeting conservative groups
Went after medical marijuana patients after saying he wouldn't
Fast and Furious (intentionally selling guns to Mexican cartels)
Many blatant lies about ACA
All the terrible treatment of veterans

Congress wouldn't let Obama close Guantanimo.

Congress cut funding for Embassy security resulting in Benghazi

Bush started the spying program

"many blatent lies about ACA" well you must be a Fox News viewer.

1.) The democratic congress wouldn't let him close guantanimo on day one has he promised? That must be why he didn't even try?

2.) The Benghazi scandal had nothing to do with the actual attack. He blamed YouTube for it, creating a huge mess, which very likely ended up costing HRC the presidency because she was involved in it. That's a scandal so big that it took out someone else!

3.) I am not claiming W was a good president, he wasn't...but continuing AND expanding these programs is not something that a "clean, scandal-free office" would do.

4.) If you remember the things he said on the campaign trail, the things he said in the early speeches of his presidency, and the things that those representing him claimed about the law, and then compare those things with what we got then yes, the lies are blatant (or he was both clueless and incompetent if you prefer). He changed claims and goals so many times even he lost track, and we ended up with a law written by the very corporations that the law was supposedly going to reign in, signed into law before anyone in congress even read it. Healthcare was not reformed, it is just a new tax for force people to buy health insurance which is now far more expensive because people have no choice but to pay for it or pay a tax...a tax that he still claims is not a tax, but that the supreme court says is unconstitutional unless it is a tax.

No, I don't watch fox news, and I'm not a republican. Judge politicians by their actions, not by whatever party you happen to align yourself with; don't pretend that because someone is a democrat or a republican they can do no wrong. If you do that, you see it's been a downward slide since JFK...and JFK is perhaps most famous for cheating on his wife.
