BLACKBURN, England, September 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Remember Cadburys Wispa? That delicious chocolate bar crammed with
millions of tiny bubbles?
Launched in 1983 amid a massive advertising campaign (featuring 80's
icons such as Yes Minister's Paul Edenton, The Sweeney's John Thaw and Dennis
Waterman and Hi De Hi's Simon Cadell and Ruth Madoc) Wispa quickly became one
of the country's favourite chocolate bars. But Wispa's star waned within 10
years and in 2004 the writing was on the wall when the name Wispa disappeared
completely and the bar was merged into the Cadbury's Dairy Milk brand... and
with it the nostalgia of the bar disappeared at a stroke.
That was until the Internet got involved.
Social Networking sites such as FaceBook and MySpace started campaigns to
bring Wispa back, with over 90 Bring Back Wispa groups on FaceBook alone,
with nearly 14,000 members between them.
And finally people power succeeded, with Cadburys announcing that they
would bring back the bar... but for a very limited time only.
And now the internet is the first place where everyone can enjoy Wispa
once more. Online sweetshop http://www.AQuarterOf.co.uk is the nation's
nostalgic sweet specialist and owner, Michael Parker, was delighted to make
Wispa available to one and all. "We stock all the favourites from days gone
by; the sweets that people thought had stopped being made. Having been
involved with some of the campaigns to bring back Wispa, we know that the
reliance of this much loved and much missed bar will bring nostalgic memories
flooding back for everyone in their 20's, 30's and beyond!"
There is a hard core of sweets that people hanker for.
http://www.AQuarterOf.co.uk dedicates a special section on the website
entitled "Whatever Happened To..." which talks about the most longed for
sweets. "By far the most talked about, and missed, sweets are Texan Bars,
Spangles, Cabana... and Wispa. 2 years ago Texans reappeared for a short time
and we sold 30,000 bars... so it's great that Cadburys have decided to bring
back Wispa - I can definitely say that they taste as good as ever!"
