Official - Invoking Cerberus Disaster Recovery can be Quicker Than Repairing Your Server

SURBITON, England, December 17 /PRNewswire/ -- When leading west-end law firm Boodle Hatfield suffered a failed disk
sub-system in one of their critical systems they invoked, as a precaution,
their Disaster Recovery Solution "Cerberus". Little did they expect that the
system recovery would be fully operational several hours before the actual
fault was rectified.

In November 2007 the Oxford office of Boodle Hatfield suffered a severe
disk sub-system failure bringing the operational duties of 27 users to a
standstill. Being remote from the problem, and therefore unsure of the extent
of the damage, Thereza Snyman, IT Manager for the Firm, decided to invoke
Cerberus Rapid Systems Recovery(TM) Static service, while simultaneously
notifying their hardware break fix partner.

Within 5 hours Datashare engineers delivered the replacement configured
hardware to site and within a further hour systems were back on line allowing
key personnel to return to their normal working environment on the same day
that the failure occurred.

The break fix engineer attended site some time later, but due to a
further component fault, the old system could not be brought back on line
until the following day.

Thereza Snyman said "I decided to invoke the Cerberus service from
Datashare merely as a precaution as I was concerned we may have suffered data
loss as a result of the disk system failure. In the event this 'belt and
braces' approach proved to be very beneficial to the business because we were
able to return to full operations in far less time than if we had relied on
the break-fix alone."

Background

Over the past 2 years Datashare has provided services to Boodle Hatfield
for both disk based back up and disaster recovery. Initially the Firm wanted
to improve the level of protection they had in place for disaster recovery.
An added benefit was the ability to perform disk based back up which
increased the speed of backups and restores but also shrunk the backup
window. As part of its disaster recovery procedures, Boodle Hatfield have
tested the recovery of their critical systems through a cycle of 8-weekly
test invocations.

The solution

Cerberus has three main offerings:

1. Cerberus Rapid Backup and Restore(TM) - a disk based backup solution
that provides fast efficient backup, restore and bare metal restore in the
event of a logical failure

2. Cerberus Rapid Systems Recovery(TM) - includes the above but also
provides 4 options for recovery in the event of an environmental disaster.
'Static' provides at an alternate site the rebuilt operating environment
(operating system, applications and user data) on temporary replacement
hardware. 'Web' recovers the failed systems within Datashare's data centre
and front ends all applications with a web interface so access can be gained
from any browser. 'Remote' provides a remote workplace for your employees and
finally 'Mobile' provides a computer room within a trailer facility which can
be temporarily used in the event that a computer room suffers a disaster.

3. Cerberus Rapid Systems Failover(TM) - provides an immediate failover
of systems to secondary equipment.
