Survey: One-in-Four White-Collar Gamers Play at Work - Senior Executives Have Most Fun

DUBLIN, Ireland, September 4 /PRNewswire/ --

- One in Seven Has Played During a Business Meeting/Conference Call

Nearly a quarter (24%) of white-collar workers said they play
casual games at work. And, it seems game play increases up the corporate
ladder with more than one third (35%) of CEOs and other senior executives
admitting to playing casual games at work.

Pioneer of casual games, PopCap Games today unveiled the
results of a survey of white-collar workers who play casual video games. Of
those who play at work:

- One in seven (14%) has played casual games during a business
meeting or conference call

- With two thirds (65%) claiming to do so at least once a
month!

- 61% play during lunch or other official break periods

- 52% play during the work day, when they need a short break

- 79% play at work several times a week or more

- 53% play at work at least once a day

Why?

79% of white collar gamers claim casual games offer physical
or mental health benefits - the most commonly cited benefits being:

- Stress relief and relaxation - 91%

- Mental workouts - 69%

- Memory strengthening - 54%

As to the effects of playing casual games while at work, 84%
said they felt more relaxed and less stressed out.

In fact, of the nearly half (48%) of respondents who occupy
supervisory roles, 79% said they encouraged their staff to take brief mental
breaks during the workday - and 29% said that more than half of their reports
play casual games during the workday.

"It's not surprising that today's white-collar workers are
casual video game users," said Carly Drum, Managing Director of Drum
Associates in New York, a leading executive recruitment firm. "The face of
today's executive workforce is definitely changing: we're seeing younger
employees who are much more technologically savvy and familiar with all forms
of new media from social networking to blogging and beyond. So, it's natural
that some white collar workers would also look to casual videogames that they
can play on their PC, mobile phone or BlackBerry during a work break, as a
way to quickly relax and recharge their batteries, so to speak."

And it seems, it might be more 'fun' than 'tough' at the top
with senior executives (slightly more than 8% of total respondents - CEOs,
CFOs, presidents and other C-level executives) indicating a considerably
higher frequency of play, including playing at work:

- 35% play casual games at work - vs. 23% of other white
collar gamers

- 70% play during work, when they need a short break - vs. 49%
of other white collar gamers

- 61% play once a day or more frequently during each work day
- vs. 51% of other white collar gamers
