Known as the 'silent killer,' high blood pressure is a rising
epidemic which can lead to strokes, heart attacks and kidney failure. Nine
out of ten Britons are likely to suffer from 'hypertension,' as the number of
sufferers worldwide is expected to soar past the billion mark in the next 20
years.
With the Blood Pressure Association's 'Know Your Numbers Week'
taking place this week (10-16 September), a unique online forum hosted on the
Works With Water website (workswithwater.co.uk), will unite the UK's 2.6m
sufferers to share their experiences - from the highs and lows of the
condition, to advice, tips and support for others. It will not provide
medical advice but act as a tool to inform & unite sufferers in the UK.
The forum is the idea of Works With Water founder Jules Birch,
who in May this year launched 120/80 spring water, the first naturally
flavoured bottled spring water in the UK to contain dairy peptides that are
clinically proven to help lower blood pressure. Since its launch, Jules has
been staggered by the level of interest from sufferers eager to share their
experiences and the different ways of dealing with the life threatening
condition.
She said: "Obviously I realised hypertension was a growing
medical condition, which is why we developed a water that could go some way
in helping to reduce elevated blood pressure. However, since the launch I
have been overwhelmed by the level of response from sufferers, who have
contacted me in their droves, anxious not only to try the new water, but also
eager for more information and to share their own experiences of this serious
condition.
"Whilst I always ensure to give a personal response to
everyone who contacts me, I realised that the sheer volume of calls and
emails meant I couldn't reply as speedily and effectively as I would wish.
Clearly our customers are much more aware generally about the food & drink
they consume and they're more likely than ever before to read labels and
question their diets. They're also more inclined to ask about ingredients and
demand clear information about the health benefits.
This forum allows them the opportunity to communicate with me
and with other hypertension sufferers and I suppose this is simply my take on
the Facebook community network, but for blood pressure sufferers in the UK. "
For the launch of the forum, as a special thank you to all
120/80 customers and enquirers Works With Water is offering a downloadable
money off voucher, to redeem against their next purchase of 120/80.
120/80 is suitable for diabetics, coeliacs and vegetarians, is
preservative free and contains 7.5 calories per serving. Priced at GBP1.29
for a 500ml bottle it is available in Tesco, Morrisons and Booths.

Notes to Editors:
- 120/80 spring water, naturally flavoured with pomegranate,
can help lower elevated blood pressure if consumed daily for a period of
2-4 weeks and as part of a healthy diet with regular exercise.
- It is the first spring water to contain dairy peptides
derived from milk protein. Research by the British Journal of Nutrition
(2005)(1) has proved that dairy peptides are effective in the reduction of
systolic blood pressure. The study concluded that food or drink enriched
with dairy peptides could assist in the prevention of hypertension in
people with blood pressure that is above normal.
(1) dairy peptides have been evaluated in over 30 clinical
studies
- Each 500ml serving of 120/80 contains 2 grammes of dairy
peptides. Current clinical research indicates a daily consumption of 4
grammes of dairy peptide to achieve blood pressure lowering results for
people with mild hypertension. (2 x 500ml servings per day)
- Dairy peptides work because one of the causes of elevated
blood pressure is a constriction of blood vessels triggered by
angiotensin 11. The angiotensin converting reaction, known as ACE, can
cause blood vessels to constrict or narrow, raising blood pressure.
- Daily peptides act as a natural blocker of this reaction.
When the constriction of blood vessels is inhibited, blood pressure can
be kept at a healthy level.
- Works With Water Nutraceuticals is an innovative spring water
manufacturer based in the Ribble Valley in Lancashire and is the first,
and currently the only, company in the UK to deliver clinically proven
health benefits in a bottled flavoured spring water.
- Launched in March 2006, the full range of waters deliver
proven benefits for adults and children: including prebiotic, soluble
fibre, improved calcium absorption and now blood pressure lowering
