MyStrands Announces the Strands US$100,000 Call for Recommender Startups for Best Industry Start-Up or Project
CORVALLIS, Oregon, March 12 /PRNewswire/ -- MyStrands, a leading developer of social recommendation technologies, today announced the Strands US$100,000 Call for Recommender Startups. The Call seeks to identify the best early-stage start-up or project in the area of recommendation technologies. The Winner will be offered an investment of US$100,000 from Strands, Inc., the parent company of MyStrands. "More than anything, the future of the recommender industry is a business that will continue to grow," said Francisco J. Martin, chief executive officer of MyStrands. "We are looking to assist other entrepreneurs in the recommendation field, as we wish we had been assisted in our earlier years." Those who choose to enter are required to submit the proposal by September 15th, 2008. Five finalists will be chosen to present their projects during the ACM Conference on Recommender Systems (http://recsys.acm.org), taking place October 23-25, 2008. Finalists will be chosen based on the technology, business opportunity and the team behind the project (without limitations as to which field the technology is applied). Finalists will obtain a US$1,500 grant to attend RecSys08 and MyStrands will also cover the fees for the conference. The Winner will be offered an investment of US$100,000 from Strands, Inc. The final selection process will include on-site presentations of each project during the RecSys08 conference. The judges will be composed of renowned experts in the academic, industry and venture capital communities. The ACM Conference on Recommender Systems gathers the recommendation industry leaders and the academic community in one place to discuss the future of the recommendation technologies. The conference will be held at the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne in Switzerland and will be chaired By Pearl Pu, General Chair. This conference builds on the success of the Summer School on Recommender Systems organized by MyStrands in 2006, and last year's 1st International Conference on Recommender Systems, where MyStrands chaired the Industry Committee.
