NEW YORK, May 29 /PRNewswire/ --
- Provider of Global IPv6 Connectivity Discusses Innovation for
Tomorrow's Internet
NTT America, a wholly-owned U.S. subsidiary of NTT Communications
Corporation, will engage with key stakeholders including global
telecommunications and Internet industry leaders, large enterprises and
policy makers at "European IPv6 Day," presented by The Information Society
and Media Directorate General of the European Commission on May 30, 2008 at
the Robert Schuman room inside the Berlaymont building in Brussels, Belgium.
The event will see the launch of the Communication "Advancing the Internet
action plan for the deployment of Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) in
Europe."
According to the European Commission, the main goal of this strong
recommendation is to promote IPv6 adoption through a wide range of actions
encouraging public administration, users and industrial stakeholders to take
decisive steps to accelerate the implementation of IPv6, so as to ensure
Europe's readiness to face the expected depletion of IPv4 addresses. In
addition to this main goal, the prompt and efficient adoption of IPv6 offers
Europe significant opportunities to boost innovation and develop a leading
role in advancing the Internet. Both the Reseaux IP Europeens Network
Coordination Centre (RIPE NCC) and the American Registry for Internet Numbers
(ARIN) have called for the widespread deployment of IPv6 for the successful
growth of the Internet.
"We're very pleased to see the growing momentum for IPv6 adoption as a
result of these global recommendations," said Latif Ladid, IPv6 Forum
President.
"Common availability of IPv6 connectivity is first and foremost in IPv6
adoption; in addition, the global Internet community must consider education
and training of IT managers, as well as network security during the
transition," said Kazuhiro Gomi, CTO of NTT America and vice-president for
the U.S. operations of NTT Communications' Global IP Network. "NTT
Communications leads the way, having fully upgraded our global Tier 1
Internet backbone to run both IPv4 and IPv6."
NTT Communications Group operates the world's largest commercial IPv6
network, connecting enterprises, federal agencies, ISPs and large content
providers like The Planet. In May of 2008, the Organization for Economic
Co-Operation and Development (OECD) featured NTT in the report, Internet
Address Space: Economic Considerations in the Management and in the
Deployment of IPv6. The company was featured for leadership in deploying IPv6
networks that communicate alerts of impending earthquakes to people in Japan.
NTT America demonstrated the Earthquake Early Warning System at the
Congressional Internet Caucus Advisory Committee (ICAC) Exhibition, held at
the U.S. Senate earlier this year. In March of 2008, IDC's Government
Insights' named NTT America to the industry short list of companies having
the most influence today on IPv6. The report, Top 20 IPv6 Influencers Working
with the U.S. Government, is aimed at U.S. federal agencies. In the United
States, federal agencies are under a directive by U.S. Office of Management
and Budget (OMB) to transition their network backbones to IPv6 by June 30,
2008.
Director of Product Engineering for NTT America, Cody Christman, will
speak on a roundtable, held from 11:30 CEST to 12:30 CEST, during the content
providers session of European IPv6 Day. Joining Christman on the panel are:
Tony Hill of The Internet Society of Australia (ISOC-AU), Seunghae Kim of the
Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information (KISTI), Bettina Kauth
of the Deutsches Forschungsnetz (DFN) - Germany's National Research and
Education Network, Constanze Buerger of the Bundesministerium des Innern
(BMI) - Germany's Federal Ministry of the Interior, and Peter Janssen of the
European Registry of Internet Domain Names (EURid). Hiroshi Esaki of the
Japan IPv6 Promotion Council will participate by video link. The roundtable
will be moderated by Detlef Eckert, Advisor, European Commission's
Information Society and Media Directorate General.
