Chip PC to Ship Latest Windows CE 6.0 R2 and RDP 6.0 for its Full Range of High-End Thin Client Offerings
MUNICH, Germany, July 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Chip PC Technologies today announced it will be shipping the high-end
range of its innovative Jack PC and Xtreme PC thin clients with the latest
Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 including RDP 6.0.
Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 new operating system components enable devices
to connect to Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 more easily.
In addition, the new OS delivers the most updated Remote Desktop Protocol
(RDP) 6.0, which unfolds important advantages to users, such as support for
Secure Sockets Layer/Transport Layer Security (SSL/TLS), Network Level
Authentication, Server Authentication, and 32-bit color graphics.
Chip PC devices with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R2 are optimized for
manageability, security and straightforward deployment, together with
proposing extensive USB peripherals support and RDP 6.0 value-ad of advanced
display options (Wide Screen and high resolutions),
Pass-through-authentication mechanism and Server Authentication Support.
The high-end range of Chip PC thin client devices with the new OS
will offer the following:
- Enhanced USB Peripherals Support
- Enhanced Security:
- SSL/TLS Protocol Support: support for using Secure Sockets
Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocols to encrypt
data sent through an RDP channel. SSL and TLS are protocols that enable
client/server applications to communicate in a way that reduces the
risk of eavesdropping, data tampering, and message forgery. SSL/TSL
protocols provide endpoint authentication communications privacy over
the Internet by using cryptography.
- Network Level Authentication: an authentication method that
finishes the user authentication process before a full Remote Desktop
Connection is established and the logon screen appears, such that a
client can only connect to a server if that server first authenticates
it. Network Level Authentication requires fewer remote server resources,
improves security and protects users from connecting to remote computers
that are set up for malicious purposes.
- Server Authentication: verifies that the client is connecting
to the correct remote server and helps prevent the client from
connecting to a server that it was not intended to connect to. In
addition, it helps to prevent unintentionally exposing confidential
information on a server in the enterprise network.
- Enhanced Display Support:
- Custom Display Resolutions (Wide-Screens): RDP 6.0 enables
support for custom display resolution ratios, such as 16:9 or 16:10.
The maximum resolution supported is 4096 x 2048.
- Multi-Display Support - Monitor spanning: supports desktop
display across multiple monitors (monitor spanning).
- Color Depth supported up to 32 bits per pixel (True Color).
Chip PC will continue shipping devices with the previous version
CE 4.2 OS and will be providing CE 6.0 R2 per customer request. The new OS
version is available as of today.
