Thomson Reuters Adds New Resources to Citation Impact Center

of new features to the Citation Impact Center -- a Web-based resource devoted
to scholarly resources and discussion about the many facets of citation-based
evaluation.

The Citation Impact Center, formally the Citation Impact Forum, now
features interviews and commentary from industry leaders -- bibliometricians,
researchers and publishers -- about scholarly evaluation. In addition, with a
streamlined site registration, visitors can take part in a discussion about
the published articles. Industry experts are encouraged to submit articles
and commentary for publication to the site.

The latest commentary piece, "Preserving the Integrity of the Impact
Factor," discusses recommended guidelines for the proper use and
interpretation of the Impact Factor.

"The Citation Impact Center promotes a dynamic dialogue within the
research community, allowing users to share with their peers the strategies
and tools being used to evaluate researchers, institutions, publications and
impact," said James Testa, director of editorial development at the
Scientific business of Thomson Reuters.

Thomson Reuters also will use the Center as a venue to address -- or to
clarify -- appropriate use and interpretation of research metrics circulating
among the scientific community and being published via journals, blogs and
other forums.

"No form of research evaluation is cut and dry -- all research metrics
have their benefits and their limitations," said Jim Pringle, vice president
of product development at Thomson Reuters. "As partners in research, by
promoting an understanding of and discussion about these metrics, we hope to
encourage those in the industry to use metrics more effectively."
