MiLife Proven to Boost Vitality of Unilever Employees Using Smart Affordable Technology
BEDFORD, England, January 21 /PRNewswire/ --
- Publication of Latest Trial Demonstrating Healthy Behaviour Change in
Weight Loss, Weight Maintenance and Physical Activity Using Devices and Web
Coaching
MiLife Coaching Limited announces the publication of their third trial of
their biometric and online physical activity and weight management coaching
system to boost employee health and productivity in the Journal of Medical
Internet Research.
MiLife is an automated, highly-personalised web and device based weight
loss and physical activity management system. It incorporates biofeedback and
the revolutionary adaptive behaviour change component - the Idapt(TM) engine.
According to the World Health Organization, 1.6 billion adults globally
are overweight and at least 400 million are obese. WHO projects that by 2015,
2.3 billion adults will be overweight and over 700 million obese. As a result
the healthcare costs for companies and governments from increasing incidents
of diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular disease will be staggering.
"This trial has shown remarkable results in terms of user engagement and
efficacy," said Ciaran McCourt, CEO, MiLife (previously CEO eDiets
(NASDAQ:DIET)); founder of eDiets Europe). "No other technology engages and
motivates users to get more active and to lose weight with such success. We
have shown 84% of the 211 employees lost weight in the first 3 months, with
around a quarter losing a clinically significant 5% of body weight. Mean
physical activity (moderate-high) was 173 minutes, which is highly
significant in terms of health benefits. Overweight users using the program
(BMI 25+) had an average weight loss of 3.7 kg (8.2lb). This ranks extremely
well against trials undertaken on other commercial diets and is a real
breakthrough in terms of smart preventative health technology."
Even in harsh economic conditions smart companies are still investing in
the health of their employees. "It is a matter of efficiency," said Chris
Tomkins, CMO, MiLife. "All companies need to boost productivity off a smaller
overhead. A healthy and motivated workforce can do just that. Our experience
with Unilever is that clients would only spend an average of GBP9 per head
across the employee population."
Professor John P. Foreyt Ph.D., Director Behavioral Medicine Research
Centre, Houston, USA and has helped the USAF manage weight said, "MiLife is
an engaging, evidence-based weight management tool. It has been shown to help
individuals eat better, exercise more, and lose weight. Highly-recommended."
