Co-operative Bank Donates Over GBP2 Million to Amnesty International
MANCHESTER, England, September 14 /PRNewswire/ --
- Amnesty International has Received a Record GBP2 Million From Caring
Co-operative Bank Customers.
The Co-operative Bank is the exclusive provider of the Amnesty Credit
Card, which was launched in 1993. Amnesty receives GBP15 for every account
opened and 25p for each GBP100 spend, plus GBP2.50 if the card is used in the
first six months.
The bank recently sponsored 'The Stand Up For Freedom' comedy events at
this year's Edinburgh Fringe Festival. By covering the cost of staging the
performances, the bank's support ensured that all the proceeds from the shows
went directly to fund Amnesty's vital work for human rights.
As a financial provider, The Co-operative Bank is a natural fit for the
charity, as the only high street bank to have an established Ethical policy
which reflects the views of customers about how their money should and should
not be invested. Within the policy, the Co-operative Bank supports the
principles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and will not invest
in any government or business, which fails to uphold basic human rights
within its sphere of influence.
Carol Karaca, Partnership Manager from the Co-operative Bank says,
"Affinity credit cards like the Amnesty International card, remain a
fantastic way for customers to help their chosen charity, whilst also
benefiting from the use of a competitively priced product.
"At the Co-operative Bank we are delighted to work with Amnesty to
provide a credit card which makes a positive difference to people's lives
around the world."
The Co-operative Bank remains a major player in the affinity market, with
one of the widest ranges of affinity cards on offer, including partnerships
with Shelter, The Woodland Trust, Greenpeace and Oxfam.
