SPIE Acquires UK Company Matthew Hall and Strengthens its Leadership in Europe
PARIS, September 14 /PRNewswire/ -- SPIE today announces that it acquired the Building and Facilities Services business of international project management and services company AMEC plc. The initial agreements were signed on 3 August (i) and finalised after employees' representative bodies were consulted in France and the United Kingdom. In keeping with SPIE's strategy, SPIE Matthew Hall will provide multi technical engineering services from initial design, through mechanical and electrical installation services, to long-term FM across a wide variety of market sectors for clients with specialised requirements for highly engineered facilities. It has extensive operations in the United Kingdom with offices in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Darlington and Manchester - in addition to locations at customer sites. The company, which will conduct its business under the name SPIE Matthew Hall, generated sales of close to 500 million euros in 2006 and operating profit of around 15 million euros. It has more than 2,300 employees working on several hundred contracts. SPIE Matthew Hall will be the largest contributor to group sales and lift the share of revenue generated outside France from 28% to 40%. The acquisition places SPIE among the European leaders in its sector.
