Vodafone UK CR Report Outlines Challenges and Demonstrates Commitment

LONDON, September 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Vodafone UK Corporate Responsibility Report, independently audited by
Deloittes, outlines the challenges faced by the telecoms industry and
explains the measures taken by the company to address them.

"Our Goal is to be the UK Communications leader," said Nick Read, CEO of
Vodafone UK,." I am hugely excited about the potential of communications
technology to create social and environmental benefits for the UK".

The report details the continued effort to protect young people from
access to inappropriate content via their mobile. Vodafone UK was the first
operator in the world to implement access controls and works hard to ensure
that the standards of safety are maintained. This is particularly important
in today's world where social networking sites are increasingly popular.
Vodafone has worked with MySpace and YouTube to design mobile friendly
version of their sites to protect children.

Vodafone works with the Mobile Industry Crime Action Forum on issues
associated with phone crime and theft and along with all other UK networks
last year committed to blocking 80% of all stolen phones within 48 hours.
Vodafone exceeded this target by 17%.

Vodafone's is committed to improving energy efficiency, reducing waste
and increasing reuse and recycling. Progress in this area has been very
positive with 79.4% of waste recycled, 17.2 % re-used and 3.4% incinerated
for energy recovery. Next year the company plans to reduce the energy
consumption of its current network infrastructure offices and stores by 12.5%
against 2005/6 levels by March 2009. Vodafone will also launch a new strategy
on climate change by March 2009.

Handset recycling is also an area of concern as on average customers
upgrade their handsets every 18 months. Vodafone has recently offered SIM
only tarrifs as an incentive to encourage customers to keep their own
handsets . During the year 21.3 tonnes of handsets were resused and 3.1
tonnes were recycled.

Vodafone is also exploring new products and services that benefit our
customers and wider society. For example work is going into exploring a
SMS999 scheme for customers who have a speech or hearing impairment. The
scheme will allow pre-registered customers to send an SMS instead of making a
voice call if they need to dial 999. Vodafone is the first mobile operator to
commit to the scheme.

"We need to embed CR into our thinking so all decisions take into account
opportunities to enhance our reputation", continued Nick Read, "We are a
leader in this area and intend to stay there",
