RFS Pushes the Technology Envelope Without Leaving Legacy Systems Behind

HANNOVER, Germany, February 12 /PRNewswire/ -- RFS (Radio Frequency Systems), the wireless infrastructure
specialist, is unveiling a capex reducing, cell tower load minimizing - and
technology boosting - portfolio of products for the GSMA Mobile World
Congress this February.

Central to the range of leading edge technology products is a
raft of products designed to smooth carriers' migration to LTE (Long Term
Evolution) without the cost and technology issues that caused the industry
problems when 3G was first phased in.

"Unlike the last migration period (from GSM/PCS to 3G), the
economic framework our customers are operating in is radically different.
ARPUs are constrained and capex, as well as associated cell tower loading
issues, need to be kept in check. The range of products and solutions we are
showing at the GSMA Mobile World Congress is in keeping with this strategy"
said Eric Mariette, RFS' vice president of global marketing and strategy.

Wireless In-Building Continuity - ClearFill Star

Spearheading RFS' range of innovative products on show at the
Barcelona event is ClearFill Star, the world's first fully digital
RF-over-Ethernet wireless indoor coverage solution.

ClearFill Star uses a unique cost efficient and digital
IP-based approach that improves indoor cellular service by converting radio
coverage into a streaming application on an IP Ethernet data network.

Based on innovations in wireless, Ethernet, and packet
technology, the system uses the Cat5e switches, cabling, and network
administration infrastructure already installed in most office buildings.

This makes the highly cost-effective technology simple and
inexpensive to deploy, maintain and reconfigure.

A unique feature of the system is that the capacity of the
base stations can be micro-managed by assigning (within software) which
indoor Remote Radio Heads (Active Antennas) are allocated to which base
station / base station sector.

RFS will demonstrate the ClearFill Star UMTS (W-CDMA) solution
on its booth at Mobile World Congress.

LTE 2.6 Diplexers

[Full press release and photo on this topic available; see
link at the end of this release ref RFS0224]

Also being shown amongst an attractive flotilla of products on
show at this, one of the most prestigious events in the wireless world, are
the LTE 2.6 ShareLite series of Diplexers, designed explicitly for the
rollout of LTE, at 2600 MHz, outside North America.

The ShareLite Diplexer range now includes the world's smallest
high-performance diplexer; the FD9R6004 Series integrated 698-960/1710-2200
MHz unit.

RFS is also unveiling the FD9L4502 Series at the show. The
Series centers on a prototype 698-960/2300-2700 MHz multi-frequency-range
diplexer designed specifically for LTE deployments.

A second prototype multi-frequency-range diplexer, the
FDRL3502 Series, is being shown, which spans the 1710-2200 MHz plus 2500-2700
MHz frequency bands and also assists carriers in their migration to LTE.

These new diplexers have been designed to support LTE
transmissions on the cell tower, but are also backwards compatible with 2G
and 3G frequencies. This allows cell tower installation on a swap-out basis,
rather than increasing the load on the tower plus its associated cabling.

A key feature of the ShareLite Diplexer range is the very low
insertion loss - typically 0.3 to 0.4 dB at 2.6 GHz - which translates to
something of a revolution at the top of the cell site tower and smoothes the
way forward for what is certain to be an evolutionary, rather than
revolutionary, period in cellular services expected over the next few years.

RFS' engineers will also be showing a 1710-1880/1920-2200 MHz
diplexer and a PCS (Personal Communication System) In-band combiner system at
the GSMA event.

New RFS Optimizer CELlite revealed

[Full press release and photo on this topic available; see

The new high-performance Optimizer CELlite base station
antenna series is a slim line dual-polarized range designed to complement
RFS' popular vertically polarized CELlite variant - providing users with an
extremely stable and lightweight antenna solution.

Supporting all services between 806 and 960 MHz, the new
Optimizer CELlite antenna series exhibits the superior performance of the RFS
Optimizer antenna family - including upper side lobe suppression (typically
better than 18dB across the entire frequency range), high gain, and an
impressive front-to-back ratio (typically 28dB).

CELLFLEX(R) Lite new additions complete the proven range

[Full press release and photo on this topic available; see
link at the end of this release ref RFS0223]

RFS' portfolio of cable solutions is being boosted by several
new CELLFLEX Lite foam dielectric coaxial transmission line products,
including the 1/2 inch LCF12-50JL, the 11/4 inch LCFS114-50JL and the ultra
flexible 11/4 inch UCF114-50JL.

This means that the industry leading series of Lite cables is
now complete with all popular sizes and applications being covered. This
latest set of additions to the range has been prompted by sound success in
numerous project roll-outs and ensures that RFS's portfolio of corrugated
aluminum and copper cables is now the most comprehensive in the world.

The CELLFLEX Lite solution has been proven in 3G scenarios, as
well as 2G deployments and continues the company's 'one fits all' strategy,
which means that accessories like connectors and grounding kits fit to low
loss as well as to ultra-flexible cables, plus aluminum and copper cables.

Using this approach ensures there is no risk of error in the
field during installation and helps to reduce the required customer inventory
levels.

RFS' CELLFLEX Lite cables continue the success story of
corrugated feeders, thus avoiding the installation challenges introduced by
other aluminum solutions being proposed.

RFS' E-band solutions revealed

The relentless march of next-generation wireless data services
is beginning to strain backhaul infrastructure, as high data throughputs -
and subscriber demand - consume network capacity.

RFS' observations suggest that high-capacity microwave links
will provide a global backhaul solution, as carriers rush to meet subscriber
uptake.

Two sections of the E-band spectrum, which are available
between 71 and 86 GHz, are expected to enter frequent network usage later
this year.

E-band systems - using 1ft and 2ft antennas - will support
between 200 and 600 Mbits/second capacities over distances of up to two
kilometers.

The RFS engineers will be pleased to discuss these leading
edge deployments with journalists and visitors to the Congress.

Mobile TV antennas - any frequency, any standard

[Full press release and photo on this topic available; see
link at the end of this release ref RFS0221]

Mobile TV technology is exciting broadcasters and carriers
around the world, but standards do vary between regions and sometimes
countries within regions.

RFS is presenting its extensive range of Mobile TV antennas -
which are flexible on frequencies, as well as standards. This means that its
solutions are suitable for global deployments of this revenue and
ARPU-enhancing technology in what has become a fast-changing environment.

Central to this strategy are a range of lightweight antennas
including the MTV-4,a lightweight (20kg) antenna system which supports the
entire UHF TV band and LPF16E4 low pass filter solutions. These products can
be deployed in a wide range of countries. Perhaps more importantly, as
standards evolve and countries agree on which standards they will support,
the antennas and associated cabling - plus electronics - can be modified to
meet the new standards and requirements as they evolve, with minimal
modifications being required.
