Carefx Expands International Presence with New Office in London
CHICAGO, April 7 /PRNewswire/ --
- Carefx's Fusionfx allows UK hospital clinicians to experience
clinically relevant views of patient information from across disparate
information systems
Carefx Corporation, whose Fusionfx solution suite aggregates patient
information across existing systems and offers clinicians single, clinically
relevant views of patient information, today announced that it has
established a base of operations in London, England. The move is designed to
serve and build upon the company's client base in the UK and Europe and
expand its overall reach in the UK and EMEA markets. Wayne Parslow, a
technology industry veteran, will lead Carefx's business development in the
UK as Executive Vice President and General Manager.
"With the opening of our London office, we enhance our position to serve
both government-operated and National Health Service (NHS) Foundation Trust
hospitals and fulfil our long-term commitment to the UK and European
markets," said Andrew Hurd, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Carefx.
"With Wayne in place, Carefx can fully leverage our established distribution
partnerships and help UK hospitals and their clinicians tap into a
centralized electronic clinical record (ECR) system that resolves the problem
of data fragmentation."
Carefx has already implemented Fusionfx at Cambridge University Hospitals
NHS Foundation Trust (http://www.cuh.org.uk/addenbrookes/addenbrookes_index.html),
where clinicians are using Fusionfx to access the patient information they
need - where, when and how they need it. Carefx is implementing Fusionfx at
Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (http://www.oxfordradcliffe.nhs.uk/home.aspx).
Because the Fusionfx solution suite aggregates patient information across
disparate systems and provides clinicians with single, clinically relevant
views, clinicians can more easily solve patient problems and make rapid,
accurate decisions at the point of care.
"The Carefx solution benefits the Trust by bringing together relevant
patient data from multiple applications and making that data more meaningful
and useful to clinicians," said Dianne Nixon, Head of IT Programme Management
at Cambridge University NHS Trust. "Carefx adds value to the Trust's existing
applications while improving its clinical care and patient safety
performance."
UK hospitals such as Cambridge and Oxford face many of the same issues
experienced by U.S. institutions. "Hospitals use varied combinations of
health administration systems (HASs), with some relying on national hosting,
and others running systems by themselves or through an external managed
services company," Parslow said. "But every UK hospital realizes that it must
pursue some action plan to resolve the pervasive and crippling crisis of data
fragmentation."
Clinicians' urgency to access unified, clinically relevant views of
patient information has accelerated since the UK set targets for multiple
clinical pathways -- known as protocols in the U.S. -- and incentivized
hospitals and Trusts to meet those targets. Given these realities, Carefx
believes that growing numbers of UK hospital administrators and clinicians
will gravitate toward the open, flexible and scalable platform from Carefx
which also allows them to evolve to newly available composite applications
that focus on medication reconciliation and quality measures (fxClinical) and
charge capture (fxFinancial). Adoption and use of Carefx's messaging and
electronic referral application (fxCollaboration) may increase as Foundation
Trust clinicians increasingly refer patients to other UK hospitals.
"Carefx is committed to helping healthcare organizations advance patient
care quality and safety by better managing care transitions and information
gaps among diverse departments, systems and facilities," said Hurd. "Carefx
will partner and collaborate with UK hospitals to improve performance and
patient care quality by providing real-time interaction and connectivity
among applications within an organization's existing infrastructure and
taking an open, flexible and scalable approach to patient information
delivery.
Carefx is demonstrating the Fusionfx suite at the Healthcare Information
and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) conference (booth #3637) in Chicago,
IL, April 4-8, 2009.
