Corning Successfully Completes MDU Trial for Southern Telecommunications Company in the City of Rostov-on-Don

ROSTOV-ON-DON, Russia, May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Corning Cable Systems GmbH & Co KG, part of Corning Incorporated's
(NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, has recently completed a multi
dwelling unit (MDU) trial project for Southern Telecommunications Company
(STC) in the city of Rostov-on-Don with the support of its distributor in
Russia, JSC Technocom, and the construction company, CJSC Business Computer
Center.

During this trial, Corning Cable Systems successfully installed its
innovative Evolant Solutions(R) Ascend(TM) MDU System into the Rostov-on-Don
apartment block using Corning SMF-28e(R) XB bend-improved fibres in the
building riser. These advanced technologies and solutions were specifically
selected by STC to ensure that when connecting 79 apartments within the MDU,
the residents would be assured of high optical performance and minimal
disruption during the installation.

"High-rise apartment buildings and MDUs are the major residential
architectures in urban city environments," said Mr. Dmitry Koftun, head of
technical development service in the Rostov-on-Don branch office of STC. "We
chose Corning's Ascend(TM) MDU System to be one of the technologies in our
testing program because these buildings provide many challenges. During the
trial, we were able to witness firsthand how preconnectorized solutions,
which eliminate the requirement to break out fibers at floor leve,l resulted
in a faster riser installation without the need for rework. This technology
will enable future customers to be quickly and easily connected without the
need for any splicing."

The Ascend(TM) MDU System, part of Corning's Evolant MDU Solution set,
was deployed for the "Homes Passed" phase of this project, and in the near
future, the first customers will be connected using Corning(R) ClearCurve(R)
bend-insensitive fibres terminated with Corning Cable Systems OptiSnap(TM)
Connectors on the customer side.
