CHRISTUS Health Selects Five Elsevier Clinical Decision Support Solutions to Transform Care Delivery for Patients, Physicians, Nurses and Pharmacists

PHILADELPHIA, August 10 /PRNewswire/ --

- Partnership with Elsevier Facilitates Continuation of System's
Nine-Year "Journey to Excellence"; Elsevier Becomes Primary Information
Source for Clinicians

Elsevier (http://www.elsevier.com), a world leader in
healthcare and medical publishing and online solutions, today announced that
Dallas-based CHRISTUS Health, one of the top 10 Catholic health systems in
the U.S., will install five of Elsevier's online clinical decision support
(CDS) solutions to meet the diverse and evolving clinical decision support
needs of its physicians, nurses and pharmacists.

CHRISTUS opted for Elsevier's comprehensive, interdisciplinary
and integrated suite of CDS solutions for pharmacy, medicine and nursing.
Among the selected solutions are Clinical Pharmacology
(http://www.clinicalpharmacology.com), which delivers expert drug
information; ToxED 2.0 (http://www.toxed.com), which facilitates treatment of
drug overdose emergencies; First Consult (http://www.firstconsult.com), which
provides evidence-based answers for the point of care; MD Consult
(http://www.mdconsult.com), which brings leading medical resources together
in a single online service; and Mosby's Nursing Consult
(http://www.nursingconsult.com), which helps nurses find answers to pressing
clinical questions.

"Elsevier looks forward to providing CHRISTUS Health
clinicians with CDS solutions that deliver timely, consistent, accurate
information for enhanced diagnostic and treatment decision making," said
Scott Wilson, Vice President, Clinical Decision Support Sales. "When
physicians, nurses and pharmacists access the same high-level evidence-based
content, they are better positioned to coordinate care, engage patients and
families and improve quality, safety and efficiency."

Elsevier CDS solutions will be installed in 25 Texas hospitals
within CHRISTUS Health, which is composed of more than 40 hospitals,
inpatient and long-term care facilities, as well as multiple clinics,
physician offices and healthcare services.

"CHRISTUS Health has been on its Journey to Excellence since
2000, and adoption of multiple Elsevier CDS solutions will enable progress in
each of our directions of excellence: clinical quality, service delivery,
business literacy and community value," said Thomas Royer, M.D., President
and CEO of CHRISTUS Health. "CHRISTUS Health's ability to continue our
Journey means providing our physicians, nurses, pharmacists and associates
with advanced clinical decision support tools to deliver absolute
excellence."

Other factors influencing CHRISTUS' decision to adopt multiple
Elsevier solutions included its need to consolidate resources, save on costs,
integrate solutions and allow physicians, nurses and pharmacists to navigate
effortlessly between CDS products. For example, a clinician can move
seamlessly from MD Consult to Clinical Pharmacology, without logging in and
out of multiple programs, saving time and effort.

"CHRISTUS is convinced that online decision support solutions
play a vital role in fulfilling the system's mission," Royer said. "The
implementation and use of Elsevier's multiple solutions will help us to
create services, process and structures that improve the health of
individuals and local and global communities."
