Pyramid Research Forecasts a Bali High for 3G in Indonesia

CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, August 12 /PRNewswire/ --

Indonesia is set for some huge growth in 3G service uptake over the next
five years, and operators are taking some creative steps to build out that
subscriber base, according to the latest forecast data and analysis from
Pyramid Research (www.pyr.com), the telecom research arm of the Light Reading
Communications Network (www.lightreading.com).

In its latest round of quarterly forecasts, Pyramid Research predicts
that 44 percent of Indonesian mobile subscribers will be using a 3G device by
2014, which translates to a compound annual growth rate of 54 percent from
2008 through 2014.

Operators in Indonesia are starting to promote 3G-enabled services to
spur early demand, notes Charles Moon, manager at Pyramid Research and author
of Bali Hi: 3G Comes to Indonesia. "On a recent visit to Bali, I noticed a
Facebook mobile commercial being shown on TV,"Moon writes. "My first reaction
was surprise, as I wondered if nationally broadcast TV commercials were the
most efficient way for mobile operators to reach that tiny segment of
high-end subscribers who might be tempted to upload photos through their 3G
devices. Then it occurred to me that the operator was actually achieving
something far greater than just reaching out to a small portion of its user
base." Read the full Pyramid Point "Bali Hi: 3G Comes to Indonesia here
