pasted here).
Rating for CCE Basic. I've tried all the modes (VBR,
CBR) with multiple bit-rates all the way upto
15000kbps. The quality is very poor (Sources are
AVI files off a Canon MiniDV and a Panasonic MiniDV).
Using 2.70.01.16.
In contrast, I just downloaded TMPGEnc (2.525.64.184).
I can get near AVI quality (source) with "Constant
Quality" setting, 15000kbps (min, max both), 30fps,
inverse 3:2 pulldown encode mode, highest quality,
noise reduction, sharpen edge, custom color correction
(brightness and contrast) and double field, adaptation
deinterlacing enabled. The GOP structure is set to
IPPPPPPPPPP (10 P frames, no B frames). The file size
is almost exactly halved (so, I can save a full miniDV
tape == 1hour, onto a single DVD).
I tried about 7 different iterations of VBR, CBR and
GOP structure to finally settle for the above, btw.
I've tried similar settings (and all possible combinations
including an I-only GOP structure) settings on the
CCE Basic version and the quality was extremely poor
(I couldn't even make out facial features in almost
all the cases).
The video is a concert - so, there were no scene
changes or a lot of motion. Given all the reviews for
CCE, I was expecting a lot. Needless to say I'm
disappointed for shelling out $$ to buy CCE. Now I
have spend $$ to buy TMPGEnc as well :-(
