Greg, Im sorry, but I never tried out the video with these units, just the audio. Audio was bad enough! I eltenuavly stopped using it mostly because I was having problems with my wireless network and I was trying to eliminate any potential radio interference. My new idea is to simply get another power adapter for my laptop and when I do want to listen to music on my stereo, just bring it into the living room and hook it up to this adapter and to audio cables going to the back of my receiver. Havent done this yet, but it should be pretty easy, and will actually get me to move a little!

The source code qusoeitn is very good. You can use the MpAA vs Google (I forgot which actual company it is) request againt them. After all, if its alright for them to ask for source code, it should be acceptable for them to turn over source code. Afterall, why is their method of detecting infringers "proprietary and a trade secret" its being used as evidence in Federal Court.

WagnerYeah, I am aware that there is long-time holywar beeewtn fans of these two codec packs. :)I am no codecs expert and dont pretend (like many) to be one so I can only repeat that I am using K-Lite codec pack for a long time and it always worked good for me.And by the way you can see in post I am recommending Playback only install that only ensures playback without any extras.

I just wanted to say that you CAN install only Quicktime, you DO NOT have to install Itunes if you dont want to. Just look for the Quicktime only installer on the same page. Its a bit hidden...

Perfect, perfect, perfect. Especially w/available Mozilla plug-in. Haven't come across any RealMedia/RealAudio extensions I can't use w/Real Alternative.

I too am a fan of lite, lean-n-mean, apps. and despise bloated, clunky programs. FoxIt is the best, I happily sliced-n-diced Adobe and sent it on its way to "crap program hell".
Check out OpenOffice.org by Sun, if you're a Microsoft Suite user. OpenOffice is very lite, streamlined and incredibly efficient. I used MS Suites daily for 8 years and know the progy in-n-out. Once I used OpenOffice and saw it did everything and more, and better than MS Suite, MS Suite went the way of Adobe.

Aside from the lack of streaming capabilities, I can't find anything wrong with this nice little program. I used to really like my RealOne Player, but it got to be too much of a resource hog. Tried this out and it works great...

This is a very good alternative to the regular Real. If you don't need it and would like to use this, get it fast! The only downside is that it can't support streaming video, which is kind of a downer when a website has only real as their format. Other than that, top-notch!

Real Alternative 1.40 indeed seems to work on x64 1433. Got video, got sound. at least on primary display.

One bug it seems, is that I'm running a nvidia 6600 dual display, and it only works on the primary display.
If i drag the real window over to the secondary display, its goes black and video time still going.
stopping and starting video does not resolve it. so looks like i have to play videos on the primary display only.

I did manage to find a freeware 'hack' called RealMedia Splitter 1.0.1.0: <a href="http://tinyurl.com/b33d6" class="korostus" target="_blank">http://tinyurl.com/b33d6</a>
RealMedia Splitter allows you to play RealNetworks audio/video files using Windows Media Player.
You will need to install Real Alternative [recommended] first.

1. Unarchive the package and use the files from Release Unicode if you're running Windows 2000/XP.

2. Copy RealMediaSplitter.AX file in system32 folder [ C:WINDOWSsystem32 ]

3. Then launch command prompt [ START > Run > Type: cmd ]
3a. Changed Directory to c:windowssystem32

• To install the files, type: regsvr32 RealMediaSplitter.ax
• To uninstall the files, use: regsvr32 -u RealMediaSplitter.ax

4. In the end, you should receive a message saying that your file was succesfully installed/uninstalled.


When I play a .rm video file in WMP10, it plays in both my primary and secondary displays, it blanks out for a second when i drag the WMP window back and forth, but it works, unlike Real Alternative 1.40.

This should also satisfy the 'anti' RealPlayer folks (although they would still need to install Real Alternative first).

Great software, not nearly as big and bulky as real player but very functional. also none of those stupid adds all the time! :)
