FFDSHOW rev. 1355 (20070715)

This is an old version of this software. You can also download rev. 610 (20061201) (latest stable version) or rev. 3014 (20090620) (latest beta version).

FFDSHOW is a DirectShow decoding filter for decompressing several video formats, including DivX, XviD, WMV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 movies.

Filter also supports nowadays decoding of virtually all audio formats used in movies, including AC3, DTS, MP3 and Ogg Vorbis, and several subtitle formats.

Codec also features postprocessing capabilities, support for virtually all MPEG-4 video formats, support for various processor enhancements (such as SSE and MMX), etc. FFDSHOW is released as an open source software under GPL license agreement.

To summarize its main idea, the FFDSHOW consumes way less CPU power than original DivX or XviD codecs, even with maximum post-processing. At the same time the post-processing seems to give excellent quality results and allows more configuring than the original DivX codec. It can even automaticly reduce post-processing if your CPU is getting overloaded. The noise filter adds a kind of a rasterising effect to the picture - might be useful in some cases.

FFDSHOW requires Microsoft Visual C++ to work.

Please note! Some Antivirus software claims that FFDSHOW contains a trojan. However our own tests indicate that this is a False Positive

We also recommend that you read through our guide on how to install and configure FFDSHOW.

The review from "Ultragod" should be removed. His main points about FFdshow are wrong.

1) FFdshow + MPC play flv files, downloaded from youtube today, without problems.

2)FFdshow does react to the changes. Of course one has to click on "Apply".

3) The rest of his review is about other software.

FFdshow is essential software, such as Winrar or 7zip, Haali splitter and Media Player Classic.

To the last reviewer, this piece of software is still better than many codec packs and players that have it built in, due to its flexibility, performance, and customizations. It CAN play most if not all the file types of YouTube, including h.264 HD movies, although it isn't completely optimized for h.264 yet.

But it's great for MP3, AAC, AC3, etc. Not to mention that it DOES have an equalizer option in the Audio decoder settings, it's under EQUALIZER!

Also, in order to see the change so you don't have to close it, you have the video running in the player (this is true for MPC), you just right-click, select the Filters Tab and open FFDShow from there.

And I agree somewhat about the base and treble thing, but that's what your control panel is for; you set it up there and you customize your equalizer on your player or something else appropriately. If you want hand-controlled base and treble on-the-fly, hook up a receiver or something :P.

This USED TO BE the best codec package. Now U don't even need a codec package at all! =) Just get 'Gom Player' - but it can't play some MP3 & video, so use 'VLC Player' 4 the remainder, & 4 what VLC can't do (or if U prefer uber-detailed playlist fiddling) use 'Foobar' player. So, between Gom, VLC, & Foobar, U can play whatever.

I USED 2 use FFDSHOW + MPC (Media Player Classic) & Real Alternative (like MPC) - BUT, these programs no longer play the new Youtube format (they altered it - but others ignore the crippleware hack they have done).

I guess my point is, WTF good is a codec package that can't play everything? Gom plays the most stuff (video-wise). VLC is flexible in some neat ways, & Foobar is great 4 MP3 types that Gom can't play (because they R retarded Asians who haven't got a clue that MP3 is the #1 most common media format - DUH!! - lots of sub-types of MP3 tho'!)

The #1 most annoying thing about FFDSHOW now (for the past couple years actually) is it no longer reacts 2 changes in settings. U literally have 2 adjust something, then CLOSE THE PLAYER, Re-Launch the player, then C if the color or whatever other changes U made have the effect U like. THis is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!! That is just LLLLAAAMMMEEE! WTF! It USED 2 @ least RESPOND 2 your commands! =)) What a fuking piece of CRAP! Used 2 B kewl, but they lost their way - total bongheads or something. WTF good is a codec pack that makes U re-load the fuking player just 2 C if tweaking this slider or that on your EQ has the effect U wanted? OMG! HAHAHA =)) U R kidding right? What a sick joke this codec pack is! HAHAHA LoL ROFL!!

N E way, pass this junk by - use Gom, VLC, & Foobar - end or story. & Winamp of course is GARBAGE! Aimp2 Portable is interesting tho' - if U wanna' pitch-shift yer' MP3 LoL - doesn't have a high pass filter tho', & U can't just double the bass - but must do everything. What would B nice is a codec pack with the following features 2 add 2 Gom - a 'Gom Fixer' U might call it:

1) Standard Windows skin (none of this chrome or jellybean bullsh*t).

2) Functions arranged in TABS (like a multi-tabbed web browser), instead of INSANE ANNOYING UNMANAGEABLE POPUP WINDOWS! If U wanna' adjust color, click the 'color' tab, & have everything right there instead of a bunch of maddening submenus, etc.

3) Compatability with ALL MP3 variants. Half the MP3 out there, Gom can't even play. That's just sad (& VLC is wierd & ugly 2 use, & Foobar is overcomplicated)

4) Variable high pass filter (so can get more mileage out of yoru sound by removing the sub-bass yer speakers can'reproduce - but just distort when they try)

5) BASS & TREBBLE SLIDER CONTROL!! WTF is with all these GD codecs & players with the multi-band EQ?!?! Everybody ass-raping each other bending over trying 2 repeat Winamp's MISTAKE!!! That's right: MISTAKE! Oh no - let's not make it easy & quick 2 dial in a sound. Let's make people have 2 flick through 9 or more different little MICROSCOPIC sliders - ROFL!! IDIOCY!

6) About point #5, the bass & treble control should B SHELVING. That means, not just a 'hump' @ this or that frequency, but go ALL the way up & down. This gives INSANE deep, solid bass response 4 instance =) Ideally could choose what the center frequency & 'Q' (bandwidth) of the controls R as well.

7) Fuking SKIP forward & back control! WTF is with these rice heads & their retarded omission of skip buttons? OMFG!! Gom - written by a bunch of retards!

8) About point #1, that 'standard Windows skin' thing should NOT have their 'take' on it where U end up stopping/pausing the damn media any time U click ANYWHERE on the damn window. That should ONLY occur when U click the actual video or the play bar or something like that - not the damn FRAME~!!

9) Steal the pitch shift element from AIMP2 =) BUT, make it so can just double the LOW stuff down, so ADDS some sub-bass - not destroys the ENTIRE sound spectrum. Knowadimean? It's a neat toy, but needs that feature added - so can use it as an EHHANCEMENT tool 2 extend the LOWS, & not just something that can only pitch shift/alter the ENTIRE thing.

Bla bla - not like N E 1 will listen. U wonder Y nobody buys 'multimedia PCs' & still just goes 2 the Best Buy & picks up a fukin' DVD 'just fukin' worx' box & so on? WELL THIS IS WHY!!

Oh yea' - I wanna have 2 navigate through a bunch of submenus, instead of a cheap $30 DVD box that will give me COMMON SENSE like bass & treble slider - NOT!! If U 'PC Heads' expect market penetration, U gotta' start using some COMMON SENSE! WTF with this Winamp crazyness. Where's my fukin' bass & trebble slider? =D GIVE IT 2 MEEE! Yeesh - retards!! Programmers R fukin' retards - seriously

This is THE only decoder you probably need to playback the video files you 'obtain' on your PC. It handles all the popular formats like Xvid, DivX, mpeg4 and MPG,MPEG and even MKV easily.
What are you reading these for...just download it now!
