Phone: Mytouch 3g (rooted)

I installed Rom Manger and tried to flash clockworkmod recovery(using Rom Manager) so I can back up my oem rom (for safe keeping). When I select back up current rom, my phone reboots and then goes the the stock recovery screen and doesnt have clockworkmod recovery installed. I cant back up my current rom. Rom manager says that clockworkmod recovery is flashed, but it is not. Can any of you Android geniuses help me out here. I dont want to brick my phone, and want to be able to back up the oem ROM so if anything happens, i can just re-flash it

Forgot to mention that I was the one who rooted it. I got the phone from http://www.expansys-usa.com/(new, never been opened). And they dont deal with rooting/modding phones.
