I have an ASUS P6X58D-E motherboard in my computer from a couple of years ago and was checking for the compatibility of a GTX 660 ti being able to be used with the board. I did a bit of digging but it only has upwards of a 1.5GB GTX 580 but unsure if the site has been updated in a while.
Can any card work with any motherboard?
The reply I got from ASUS was "in theory it should work". But then again I had that theory too so that's why I asked.

Hi, just got back...
@ rulisky -- The board is PCI-e 2.0 and the newer card would be a 3.0 version of graphics card but Ive read somewhere that the card would be backwards compatible.
@ scorpNZ -- Its a mid tower antec case.
@ mrslicker -- Yes, it's running 64bit windows home premium
@ ddp -- The card on the site is saying that the card would need to have a minimum of 500w (mine is 600w) the new card also runs at 20w less than the card I have now so hoping it would work wattage wise.
Im still unsure about something.. So as long as the card is the same format as the slot it goes in to I can buy it and fit it to the board?
Don't know if it's allowed to give direct links but this is the card I was looking at --

NO!! You must match slot requirements.
What type of slot(s) does your motherboard support? agp, pci, pci-e??
What type of slot does the video card require?? Probably pci-e??
Check for return policy on the card vendor before buying!!
at 2 years old itll be pci-e so any card of that type will work,so long as comp is a tower if its a mini tower or form factor or slim you may need to get a low pro card instead
Unless the card you plan on getting is pci-e rev. 3 only, i think it will work. Later revision cards are not always backwards compatible with earlier motherboards, though.
The cards VRAM capacity should be a non-issue especially if you are running 64-bit OS.
Sounds ok to me. It will "fit" the slot. Power is ok. Room in the case?
As a fall back I would still confirm return policy if you are still uncertain.
