I am using two burning software programs ConvertX4 Dvd and Nero 9. They both stop converting at some point of the avi file. Why is this happening?

why dont u use WinAVI Converter.....the latest version works perfect on win7

read the error log in nero as for why it's happening how long is a piece of string

broken avi file? incomplete transfer of movie? try to watch the file and see if any playback errors occur at any point.
