My iLO DVDR04 drive tray wont open. How to fix the problem without taking the drive to a repair shop?
There is a very small hole in the drawer next to the eject button on most dvd equipment. Insert a pin and press the release mechanism and the draw should open. Its a mechanical operation, not electrical, so it should work whatever has gone wrong.
A very basic cause of this problem is the very small drive belt located on the top front of the DVD drive just under the main top cover of the unit. It stretches very slightly and will no longer drive the unit in or out. You will hear the drive motor run but no motion to the drawer is transferred due to this stretched belt. I am trying to find out where to get replacements as I had to substitute a small plastic band used for holding womens hair into a braid, etc., as I could not find anything else. They are available at Walgreens, Walmart, etc. They dont last very long, however.
1- As you try to open .. tap the unit gently on the tray side. Usually it opens. Remember never close the tray without having a DVD in the tray. Always must have a DVD in the unit or next time it will not open.
2- Unplug it first. Turn the unit over, Remove all screws. Then the tray has four small screws. Remove the top .. push the tray out by hand if it does not release it .. plug it in , push to open then put all screws on ... ready to go.
with out moving your dvd player, try unplugging it for atleast a half hour, then plug back in and give it about 2 min before hitting the eject button. hope that works!
