I could never understand why people have a million desktop shortcuts. Its an unorganized way of doing thing plus it takes forever to locate what you are looking for. It also causes a bunch of clutter on the desktop.
I use the taskbar for commonly used applications. The start menu with apps in alphabetical order. All programs separated by category.

Desktop: Recycle Bin, Network Magic folders and computer.
