Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 drop UTF8 characters in plain text messages when using IMAP accounts. How do I fix this?

The problem is caused by a mismatch in the PST file encoding. If youre not using IMAP, backup your PST, create a new PST folder in Unicode format (not 97-2000 format) and copy all your messages there and then switch to that folder.

If you are using IMAP, just delete your old account and re-create it. All the emails will be pulled back from the server and displayed correctly.
