My neighbor bought a computer running a cracked version of vista ultimate a couple of years ago and was wandering if he could upgrade to a legit copy of windows 7. Is it possible to do this or would it fail to upgrade? He wants me to do this, and I dont want to kill his machine. I checked his machine it says it is OEM( I know its not)and it passes the windows update with no problem.

rulisky, reread his post again, "if he could upgrade to a legit copy of windows 7"
keebles, check to see if there is win7 drivers for computer tho can use vista drivers if no win7 version. upgrade or fresh install of win7 as better off fresh install?
Pretty sure that you can install vista clean, non-activated, then upgrade to win 7 and activate.
He just wants the upgrade version since it is cheaper than buying the full version. Plus he doesnt want to lose any of his files and settings.
as it passes updates alright then should be okay but backup his data just in case.
You Pirate. Buy a legit Win 7 and install it.
