On the same day the company slashed its sales forecasts across the board, president Satoru Iwata made it clear that the company will not be slashing Wii U prices to boost demand.
The company already sells the console at a small loss, one that it makes up with a single purchase of software. It is clear the company can not risk having a bigger loss per unit.
"With Wii U, we have taken a rather resolute stance in pricing it below its manufacturing cost, so we are not planning to perform a markdown. I would like to make this point absolutely clear. We are putting our lessons from Nintendo 3DS to good use, as I have already publicly stated," says Iwata.
Nintendo launched the 3DS at $249.99, making a hefty profit per unit, but extremely poor sales caused the company to drop the price within 3 months to $170.
The struggling gaming company recently forecasted it would have a loss of $200 million for the fiscal year ended March 30th.
