Microsoft reportedly in talks to buy Yahoo! for $50 billion USD

Microsoft reportedly in talks to buy Yahoo! for $50 billion USD Last week, Google and Microsoft competed in a very public face-off for internet advertising giant Double Click and Google won with a final bid of $3.1 billion.
The final price left many wondering what Microsoft's true motives were. At the time of the final bid, Microsft had double the amount of available cash in its bank than Google did and could have easily outbid Google had it chose to.

Today, Forbes reported that Microsoft was in negotiations to acquire Yahoo! in a deal that could be worth up to $50 billion USD. According to Forbes, Microsoft "is feeling greater pressure to compete in the online advertising space."

Microsoft would also love to catch up to Google in search. MSN Search has been marginally increasing in users but adding Yahoo would skyrocket the company into a different level.

Microsoft has also asked regulators to closely monitor the Google-DoubleClick deal, and has loudly voiced its opinion against the deal.

I think it was a bluff bid so that google would not think of Yahoo and then when they thought that they have another victory on Microsoft, MS is going and going after the bigger fish Yahoo. I just hope they don't sell out though. I don't use Yahoo search engine a lot but i use their games and email also but i dont want MS to stuff it up.

Microsoft has been sitting on their throne so long, that they didn't realize that their kingdom is slowly being taken away from them.

I'd love to see them merge.

YES! Then they can make the Xbox 360 MegaElite Google Edition!!

That would be the worse thing to happen ever! ! You dont want to have the IDIOTS at Microsoft calling the shots for either Yahoo or Google. Look at what a MESS the new OS is in. I dont even like the "new" IE 7 because it decides what I can see on the web. I ripped it out after I found out what a piece of GARBAGE it is, and Im using Firefox instead. Vista is a giant piece of buggie garbage and I will keep using XP-PRO till it drops dead. I may switch to the viable competitors if it reaches the point were only Vista programing and support is available. I am tired of Micro (managing) Soft trying to run my computer the way they want it ! !

I say DOWN WITH ANY MERGER OF YAHOO AND MICROSOFT ! !

It makes me feel bad. Okay, so we have giant companies eating up all the smaller ones, and now we got mega-giant companies who eat up the giant ones.

Will it stop only when there will be 2 brand names on the internet all together? I thought anti-trust laws would prevent this, or do they not apply here?

Well maybe you should stop trying to install programs that aren't compatible with Vista then you wouldn't run into so many problems. I don't think it's that buggy it just has a few kinks that need to be worked out. I don't understand peoples dislike when Microsoft goes on a buying spree but when it's other buisinesses other than Microsoft buying then it's no problem. People as usual love to hate on Microsoft because their number one.

I'd say more like...taking control over everything until...they own the world. And quite frankly...I'm ok with that.

i agree, this needs to stop. each company should make their own ner devision if they want to branch, and eating up everything and making them subsidiaries is not what we need.

I love google. I use it for all my searches. Yahoo is good too for email and other stuff. I hate MICROSOFT!! When it comes to swith my xbox 360 hard drive to my other xbox 360 console i can't play my xbox live arcade games. What crap is that that microsoft pulls on us consumers? Im also tired of seeing BILL GATES trying to monopolize the computer industry. Sure he makes all this money. But he never gives back to us the consumers. And internet explorer 7? Come on. Piece of crap!! Mozilla Firefox rocks! I just hope google does not sell out to Microsoft....It be Dead Day!

At first I thought that was sarcasm but what the heck?! So you just shouldnt install programs that dont work?! What if you need or even just like it? So you just should forget about it? So just go buy the brand piece of * OS so that you can be told what you can and cant run on it? And people dont love to hate on Microsoft because their numero uno, but because of all the other crap that they do. Such as forcing vista on everyone by putting it out on just about every new PC and planning to cut off XP very soon.

165.5.2007 12:02

I got Vista running on a VM server and it is a buggie piece of software. Its really not worth the time at this point and i know this is off subject. So to get to my point MS dont really apply any real effort in their products because people will buy and support their products even it its crap. If they did manage to merge with Yahoo that would be a sad day of internet users. Just remember M$ = low quality at a high price.

175.5.2007 12:10

I personally hope that that does not happen because I use a lot of Yahoo stuff and dont want it infected with M$. Also, I found out what M$ stands for; Merde(French for s***)$(lotsa money).

187.5.2007 09:03

I'm using vista right now. There's nothing wrong with it.

197.5.2007 09:52

yeah, there really issnt. it just is a resource hog. hopefully sp1 will solve that issue, but i doubt it. everything for windows is 25% more powerhungry than it should be.

207.5.2007 11:29

you dont need 50 million to get all the benofits of acces to the records of yahoos search engine, just pretend your the US government, make up some bogus story about child pornography, tell yahoo they have no choice but to hand over the confidential information from hundreds of millions of usuers and theyll hand that shit over faster than you can say "homeland security"

Simple I have to agree I have had a fine experience with yahoo since the start of internet use both but I like the seperation of the two.

Shit, I dumped my Hotmail to reopen my Yahoo! mail. If MS buys out Yahoo! then my email is definitely going someplace else...
