Dell denies it plans to leave LCD market

Dell denies it plans to leave LCD market Dell has denied widely reported claims that the company is going to stop making LCD TVs. Websites and blogs started reporting on the alleged plan after a Taiwanese newspaper, Economic Daily, reported that Dell was set to exit the LCD display market as early as this month to focus on selling more profitable PCs. The company did acknowledge that it will make changes to its TV line-up but will continue to sell screens of 37 inches and smaller.
"We will soon offer a wider assortment of televisions from leading manufacturers that feature the latest technology and meet Dell's high standards for performance," said Dell spokeswoman Rachel Lyon. Back in February, Dell started selling Sony LCD televisions with screens between 40 inches and 46 inches on Dell.com. Dell also now sells TVs from Panasonic, Samsung, Viewsonic and Pioneer.

Dell is currently undergoing a corporate reorganization which includes laying off 10% of its 88,100 workers to rebound from falling market share and sinking profits. The company is also changing its core business model. In late May, the company announced it will sell desktop PCs in Wal-Mart retail stores, a step away from its "direct sales" model.

my brother and I bought the same computer, an XPS, about two years ago.... I bought the 24" Ultra Sharp wide screen LCD and he bought a 36" LCD TV...... after a yr he had trouble with it and it wouldn't turn on or off again! If it went off it would not turn on.... so he had to keep it on and finally it went haywire! After 2 returns they gave him a replacement and the replacement did the same thing! He has a new one now! But the computers are great!

Dell's at Wal- Mart! If it's like everything else (i.e. a carpet cleaner without brushes on the roller!), I am sure that it will be a great deal for some unknowing purchaser.

Let me guess.
On board video
On board audio
Memory and CPU soldered in place.
No PCI slots
Wireless receiver for keybd and mouse built into case.
all in flimsy plastic beige case for everyday Walmart price of $149.78!

Dell never even asked him to return them! Now that's bad!

That just means that they know they are cranking out junk when they don't ask to have the original sent back to them.
