Nintendo DS leads console sales for first half of year

Nintendo DS leads console sales for first half of year If you're a regular visitor to this site you're probably already aware that Ninendo's Wii has outsold both the PS3 and Xbox 360. What you may not realize is that it's not Nintendo's best selling system.
Sales figures for the first half of 2007 put the Nintendo DS as the top selling system, followed in order by the Wii, the PS2, Xbox 360, Sony PSP, and finally the PS3.

Interestingly, neither of the consoles designed around so called next-gen technology even comes close to the sales of the technologically inferior Wii. The Wii outsold the Xbox 360 by a factor of more than 3:2 and outperformed PS3 sales by nearly 3:1.

The venerable PS2 even outsold the PS3 by a nearly 2:1 margin. It's possible this is simply the result of Sony and Microsoft pricing their newest consoles out of the reach of some consumers who don't want to buy a Wii. This would seem to indicate that one or both of those consoles may eventually benefit from future sales to this group.

Sales of the PS3 have been up since Sony dropped the current US model to clearance prices, but they've said they expect those models to be gone soon, replaced by a new version that's the same price ($599) that left the current model sitting on store shelves prior to the discount.

Nintendo isn't just selling hardware either. Out of the top 20 games sold in June, Nintendo holds nine slots, including the top four positions. Their games also account for six of the top ten games of the year so far.

If Nintendo is the clear winner, Microsoft is certainly the loser. While Sony at least has PSP and PS2 sales to lean on while they attempt to establish the PS3 as a viable product, the Xbox 360's poor showing has put them firmly in last place.

So far this year Sony has sold nearly three times as many units as Microsoft, and Nintendo nearly four times as many.

well LIVE sucks because you have to pay for it.on the other hand nintendo wii took a high risk but that resulted in high rewarded because surprisingly people want something fun.i personally love the playstation 3 and when i play fifa 07 on ps3 and xbox360 i prefer it more on ps3.nintendo wii on the other hand is interactive and household fun.good job nintendo after a disappointing gamecube.

The 360 controller is terrible, awkwardly placed D pad, awkwardy placed triggers (wich would be L2,R2,R1 and L1 on PS). It's way too big and the buttons are not flat making it even harder to push them down.

I hate Microsoft because they are cheap and their products are poor quality. I say that because of experience.

I've always liked Nintendo and Sony products, but the DS is just way too boring for me compared to the PSP. I bought a DS when it first released, and the only game I've played regularly was ACWW with the wi-fi, and even that was only for a couple months. I just bought Pokemon Diamond, But I haven't even played a half an hour of it. I'm just not into their games anymore. Plus, on my PSP, I can play amost anything because of the OE Firmware :)

and its true that they are made shitty thats why xbox 360's have %30 failure rate.my friend but a new wireless 360 controller and it didnt work.im sorry for 360 users who have to put up with shitty technology.unlike microsoft, sony and nintendo are made in japan where all the good technology is.

the original xbox was the best and most versatile console to date and none of them were cheap...the 360 has some problems but i wouldnt say everything m$ makes is poor quality.

Well actually the release date Xboxes were one of the things. My friend had one and burned up his games. I had a Microsoft keyboard which lasted a month and a half and they wouldn't replace it. I bought Vista and then they basicly forced me to download it because the disc had a big scratch on it and it wouldn't load and they also wouldn't replace that because they said that I made the scratch.

Everyone has their own reasons why they call them M$.

Meh... there will be more DS sales when there are more games that can use the wii and the ds simultaneously... but when PS3 gets more psx games... well you will see more PSP's.
