Nintendo Wii sets new Australian sales record

Nintendo has announced that its ever-popular Wii console has sold 200,000 units in Australia in just under 50 weeks of release, making it the fastest-selling console in the country's history.
The console sold almost 60,000 units in its first week of sale last December and the console has helped Nintendo of Australia double its sales revenue for the financial year, to AUD 138.8 million.

The Wii continues to sell heavily worldwide, with some countries still having supply issues due to such high demand for the console.

Price is everything, corporations forget that and focus to much on short term gain....

Nintendo will no doubt blow away the competition again next round
with the Wii2 or WiiWii or whatever.
It's all good, especialy when you can use such a silly name and still rub it in everyones faces....eewww...sounds dodgy but justifiable all the same.

LOL

well heres the thing the WII is prefect for the short run but not so good for the long they've made 65ish million(50X13M) on the unit sales alone add in peripheral and VC maybe another 20-40M,over the coming years add 50% will 1Bin profit be enough to start the next system that offers just alil more power who knows but they are kicking ass for now.

In 2ish years its going to be neat when MS has HDVD on all new 360sand sony has better optimizations going, maybe it will lead to better prices between them.

it sell as well?
Mmm you might have a point if the retail price of the WII is 350, 400 seems to be the max price of consoles..

I have a WII and I think, it is a great system. I thought about getting a XBOX 360 but the red ring of death has me thinking seconds thought. You pay so much for a system, it shouldn't overheat and break!!

Sadly with the hardware issues still prevalent and the HDVD enabled units coming in 2ish years I can't see a reason to buy a 360 just yet 0-o.

better to wait till you can get the 120GB HDD and HDVD for a 400/450 unit.

Current build quality questionable at best.

if you want to pay 200 more sure fine, they wont be lowering the stand alone price of the HDVD and HDD much(it should lower to 100 a pop in acouple years),a all in one unit with hopefully better build quality would just be better all around and it fits 400-450 you'll save more as well..

I would say a PS3 is a better choice but it still lacks games and the prices are all kinds of out of whack.

1126.11.2007 20:15

PS3 would KILL if they had more games for it and it was a wee bit less expensive. That's why Wii sells more.

Great news for nintendo owners and i guess that this is going to be the case however here in OZ the Xbox 360 will really give it a race on its hands.

the PS3 will take the lead in acouple years, for now the WII is riding fame and the 360 just has a ton of games.

I love the 360! And I also love the Wii. Always impressed with nintendo's innovation when it comes to game play but I have a question for all you forum guys!

As wee all know game systems and the companies have been around since before the first nintendo. Now when I see companies not having enough stock to keep up with demand! WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?? Have the major companies not been in the buisness long enough to compensate for that?
Don't you think game companies are trying to make artificial demand for have a so called shortage of systems?? Not trying to bash but you'd think they would have the supply and demand dont pat by now. were in like 5th generation systems and they still have problems making anough for consumers. Penny for your thoughts.

Hell yeah they knew a year ago the wii was a gold mine, why not build a false demand for the product the shorter the supply the greater the demand.that is why there is so much hype over gamecube 1.5.not to bash the wii its kinda cool in its little way but for all the hype hell no its just not that good.

Demand is still high, they are working on production, what more do you want 2 million units to fall from the sky, things take time even more so when you region code sht.
