Disney adds digital copy to new version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

Disney adds digital copy to new version of "The Nightmare Before Christmas"

On August 26 Disney plans to release a new "Collectors Edition" version of Tim Burton's "The Nightmare Before Christmas" on DVD. What makes this release noteworth is the addition of a feature other studios have already added to some titles, namely a special copy of the movie which will be playable on as-of-yet unspecified devices. Although the specifics of the feature haven't been announced, we do know they're calling it a Disneyfile and it appears likely that other releases may also be getting it in the future.
Disney's move follows other releases in recent months from Warner Brothers and 20th Century Fox, which included similar digital copies. Both the Warner Brothers release "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and Fox's "Live Free or Die Hard" included both a low bitrate version for portable media players and a higher bitrate version for computer playback. In both cases the copy included the use of Microsoft DRM, making them unplayable on the iPod or, ironically, Microsoft's own Zune.

If it's laden with DRM then it will be about as popular as lead swim trunks. At least with the members here at AD.

Will it included a root kit virus that scours your HDD to see if unauthorized files are on it and then call home to rat you out ?

oh, yes yes yes!

i have a better idea, remove the DRM and let the owners of the media decide what devices they wish to play it on, and what quality they need instead of dictating what you think we want.

Yay! Another Digital Copy filled with DRM. That's why I have AnyDVD and an assortment of DVD ripping tools... No DRM and its quality is whatever the hell I set it to.

530.5.2008 15:51

An extra pantsload of DRM as a ''feature''! lol! poop. I have found Disney DVD's to be problematic as they ARE many times, and this is with running latest Any DVD and other apps. They frequently will NOT play on a PC. And I know many tricks to get recognition of discs with heavy DRM. No more Disney factory discs for me! I'll buy them used and cut their profits! Wonder how long it will be before we need a ''license'' to buy & sell our own bought used media on the open market?! Don't laugh!

Thanks D.. I won't go any further.. I saw the warnings and heard the tone over the last couple of weeks.

It does get a little boring, like the same old junk from the fanboys does. TBH I'm fed up with the whole lot of that. I'm pretty sure it's obvious where I stand on the argument... the bad guys won and the consumers will lose. Rich fanboys may rant, but they just earn our contempt. Some of us recycle/restore 70 year old electronics for our grandchildren for the future when it will be 1 analog low def channel run by somebody like me if I can be bothered.

Ta for that.. I know I push the envelope sometimes.

BTW.. this junk disk.. If you can get vlc to play it, just record the stream then convert to anything you want ;)

I have never seen you step over the line Varnull at all or even come close for that matter. It is one thing to have a discussion and make your point of view made clear but when all you do is constantly blast EVERY thread with partial misinformation, off topic talk/links and unsupported halve truths or very old non current news that has been debunked in what can only be an attempt to do nothing more than rant like a fanboy and start arguments; all you end up doing is bothering other members (who do report offenses & PM us mods with links and proof I might add), that's not exactly the type of discussion that most aD-er's want to partake in.

But back on topic, please feel free to PM if there are any questions or something anyone would like cleared up.

I nominate Loco to be the 8th Dwarf. Much more fitting than just an imitation latex inflatable doll. He can drive the train.
