Video Daily: BlackBerrys have email outage, again

Video Daily: BlackBerrys have email outage, again RIM has confirmed a second BlackBerry email outage this week, seemingly acknowledging that their systems may not yet be ready to handle the large increase in smartphone owners.
The smartphone maker attributed this outage to a glitch in the latest update to the BBM instant messaging program. The bug cause an "unanticipated database issue within the BlackBerry infrastructure."

RIM is known for secure and stable emails, and outages can cause corporate customers money, especially if the outages are for extended periods of time.

Adds John Jackson, vice president and wireless analyst at CCS Insight, via the WSJ: "It's a consequence of the architecture that makes RIM RIM. They invested heavily in upgrading their backup systems after outages in 2007 and 2008, and made some high-profile hires. So that it's happened twice in a week, albeit with a limited duration and geography, indicates gaps."

Well all I have to say about this is I'm glad I don't and probably never will own a blackberry.

Well here's hoping that for those who DO own a Blackberry the problem will be fixed by a patch from a firmware update, otherwise this could spell trouble for Blackberry, as no company let alone a person that relies on e-mail would want a malfunctioned send/receive link. Would be a bad day for quite a few people. - BLUEBOY

It actually affected all phones and networks. I have a Samsung Instinct on Sprint and was not getting calls or text hours after they were sent. My sister has an iphone on AT&T and was not getting her texts. So this affected everyone while networks scrambled to fix the BB problem...and that's bad.
