Magazine: Next Xbox will have touchscreen controller, just like Wii U

According to a new report in Xbox World Magazine, the next generation Xbox will also include a Wii U-esque touchscreen controller.
Says the magazine: "The controller will be a matt-black media hub with a mission to bring games to life in your living room with augmented reality, directional sound, and a four-player, finger-tracking Kinect."

The Xbox Next controller will be "an HD screen surrounded by the traditional 360 buttons and sticks." Continuing on, the report says "that touchcreen will be second only to Kinect in how you operate your console. It could be a remote control when you're watching TV, a browser when you're on the internet, extra buttons and information when you're playing a game or a portable display when you want to take your game with you."

What will the new system cost you? The magazine speculates the high-end console and controller will cost $600 at lunch, many times more expensive than the Xbox 360: "Microsoft are playing it safe with the CPU and GPU but running wild with the functions that will change how you play, but it won't be cheap."

and again microsoft is high as a kite if they think people are going to pay 600.00 for anything

I say keep the functions and go all out on the CPU and GPU. I'm sick of game companies deciding to limit their graphical tech based upon antiquated console tech.

They saw the PS3 fail at $600 so their next system will not cost $600. Further more Microsoft hasn't released in development kits so don't expect anything at E3. Microsoft probably won't release a new console until 2014.

I love the look and feel of the 360 controller. This just looks like crap (even though it's just a mockup, but I'm not crazy about the WiiU controller either). Where's your originality Microsoft? If you're going to "copy" someone, I rather they "copied" Sony and integrate a blu-ray player. But once again, they're rushing it out just to beat competition. I surely hope these rumours are just rumours.

Once again everyone just follows nintendo. While their approach is refreshing, I'd rather just keep it simple with a controller and no motion controls with a high end console. I hope the price isn't 600. I may as well just invest in a powerful desktop at that point.

kinda fugly...

What a shame! Crap???? You think the XBox is crap?? Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion but how could so many XBox owners (many more than PS3) be so wrong??

i own Xbox 360 and PS3, but $600 for a console? come on, no way am I paying that crap for that much money.

I am not paying $600 either, for any console. Did the PS2 not cost around that much? I know it was extremely expensive when it came out. It's not like these consoles are using the latest and greatest hardware. They just know some people will pay anything to get it now, just like the Apple freaks do.

This is all complete speculation as stated in the article. Why anyone posting would actually believe any of this is beyond me.

the PS2 was $300 on release, but quickly fell to $250.

i hope it does cost $600, then maybe people will wake the hell up and realize that for 600 Bucks you can build a PC that out performs that piece of junk. when the next piece of junk is released its only going to cost you $300 bucks to stay in the game.

I think the next xbox will relly on something similar to Onlive, so they don't need to put out new consoles anymore and also don't need that much power on the console so it will be cheap as hell ;)

Waste of battery life.

+/- 2 Million on a world wide stage (not even accounting for repurchases from RROD's mind you) is what's considered to be "many more than PS3"? That must be a troll/joke post because I'm sorry I do not agree with that at all...the Wii's estimates of 95 Million versus the 360's +/- 64 Million and the PS3's +/- 62 Million is "many more". Not 360 over PS3.

If this rumor is true then you are correct.

I could only imagine what it would be like for this & the Wii U's counterpart.

I think the point of the statement is that many more owners of the PS3 are so wrong.
================
*starts to think*
I think the starting price of the PS3 was beyond stupid and the removeal and backtraking of features is a joke but well worth 200$ for the BWC console. The 360 was bearly worth 150$ when I got it acouple years back added on another 100$ in accessories. And over all the games are what suck, too watered down, too dumped down and too over simplified.... and worse yet it brought qaulity down on PC games as well....

I got a DS till it was emulated then sold off my DS still have my 3 games, loved the PSP since it pluged into the TV a shame both the 3DS and vita are jokes and not worth my time much less money.

The only way they'll sell Xbox's for 600.00 is to put an i in front of it. Hmm The ixbox. Nah !!! I don't think so.

Like DXR88 said pc gaming is the way to go,however i say only so long as the games support the 360 controller on the pc..lol..
