ZTE expects to shop 100 million smartphones per year starting in 2015 China's ZTE has noted today it expects to ship over 100 million smartphones by 2015.
The phone maker began selling very low-end feature phones in Africa in 2001 and has evolved into a smartphone maker that is popular in Africa and Asia but not in the U.S. or western European nations.

Despite a drop in margins on their phone sales, the company sold 15 million smartphones in 2011 and expects to sell up to 50 million this year. The company is the world's fourth-largest handset producer and is also a popular telecoms gear maker.

Overall, 472 million smartphones were sold in 2011, with Samsung and Apple being a few of the top sellers.

The company will look to take bigger share in Europe with their first quad-core phone, the Era. The phone runs on Android 4.0, has a 1.3GHz Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, a nice 4.3-inch 960 x 540 qHD display and a thin form factor that is only 7.8mm thick. Additionally, the phone has 8GB internal storage, 1GB RAM, quad-band support with HSPA+ 42, Wi-Fi, UMA (Wi-Fi Calling), Bluetooth 3.0, HD Voice capability, Dolby-engineered sound, and DLNA.
