Study: iPhones more reliable than other smartphones

According to a new report from Q&A site FixYa, the iPhone is the most reliable smartphone.
The company "looked at data from 722,558 problem reports listed on the site, and combined that information with market share data from StatCounter to create an ultimate reliability score for each smartphone manufacturer," says Mash.

Apple beat out Samsung, Nokia and Motorola handily.

"Smartphones are consistently being compared on a case-by-case basis, but no one has looked at the overall trends across a manufacturer's entire smartphone line," added FixYa CEO and founder Yaniv Bensadon. "Our newest FixYa report looks at lines like the iPhone, Galaxy, or Lumia, and through a careful analysis of issues versus market share, we've been able to directly compare manufacturers using a reliability score. The result is an accurate and fair method of a scaled approach to fairly compare these top companies to truly see who is the most reliable, and who is barely even competing."

The report looked at full product lines, and every company had different complaints. iPhone users complained mainly about lack of customizability, lack of new features and poor battery life. Samsung users also complained about the battery life, but also had issues with the speaker/mic and device overheating. Nokia users complained about a poor app ecosystem, laggy UIs, and poor battery life. Lowest-ranked Motorola had a wider range of issues. Users complained of touchscreen issues, camera and speaker issues, and the bloatware installed on their phones.

completely BS data. if you think about android smartphones (or even other OS smartphones), it has different markets, low-end smartphones always get rough-used, misused, and abused; and they are way higher in number than high-end android smartphones. on the other hand, iphones are always expensive, and therefore, buyers always use it more carefully, hence, way less issues and complaints.
you can only compare reliability when you give same treatment to both the phones.

I've heard the Genius Bar has quite a bit to do with it.

Iphone users don't even complain when the cheap screen shatters...gotta wonder about the reporting from such users. As for battery life, at least you can do something about it with most android phones. That said, android does have big problems on the manufacturer side. If all androids were nexus and we didn't need to wait for carriers to issue updates it would be much better for the average user.

Most iphone owners I know usually stop repairing the phone after the 2nd times as they can't be bothered paying to fix it up all the time.

Is bitching about features or lack of an indicator of reliability then?

My cousin went through 4 or 5 iPhone 4's before she gave up on it. Started with a defective one and they just kept replacing it with defective ones lol

Just from my personal experience and my friends' and family's (although it'd be a sin if they admitted any faults), this survey is complete BS. I don't understand how they can play this as a realistic survey.

Glad you said this, not to mention smartphone users who lack the knowledge to troubleshoot their device tend to choose the iphone for this reason. Meanwhile users who are more tech savvy and willing to troubleshoot their tech issues prefer android for its allowance of just that. My galaxy breaks, I fix it, and easily can. My buddies iphone breaks and there is literlly nothing he can do about it, they are built that way.
Now heres the biggest reason this data is bullshit. Apple has 5 phone models. Samsung has over 140. So if I search Iphone aux port issue, theres only 4 other apple products I could be talking about other than the one I have and that means its more likely to already have been asked and answered, no reason to post.

Meanwhile, any report that makes Apple look bad MUST be true. ;-)

Yeah it seems there are fanboys of other phones on here saying this is not true...... because it is apple that gets a good report!

But yet they agree with any report that makes apple look bad.

That is also crap!

I repeat... why is the report not based on actual breakdowns and repairs???

Simple bitching does NOT constitute reliability you MUST see that.

This "reliability" report is as reliable as their interpretation of the word reliable. :D

I feel the love.

Not trying to be a fanboy here ( disclaimer : I own an iPhone 5 ,my first smartphone) but maybe it's not that iPhones are more reliable. Maybe it's just that more iPhone users buy heavy duty cases for their phones than android users do. It's a really expensive investment and protecting it should be a top priority. When I look at the Sunday paper and see all the android phones for free in the best buy ads it just seems like they would be cheaper to replace than an iPhone. Most people I know that own iPhones have them in cases. I'm not trying to enter a debate, just adding a different perspective. Seems like all the apple haters just love jumping on articles like this.
