Wii U sales continue disappointment in February as does industry The NPD Group has released their video game industry figures for February, with the overall downtrend not abating.
Hardware, software and accessory sales were down 25 percent year-over-year, with hardware seeing the biggest decline at 36 percent.

Wii U sales were disappointing, (and that's being generous), at 74,000, which was actually a 40 percent boost from January. The number is shockingly low for the console which is just four months old.

The full figures (via Sutra):
Video game hardware: $244.2M (-36%)
Video game software (console, handheld): $352M (-36%)
Video game software (console, handheld, and PC): $369.9M (-27%)
Video game accessories: $213.9M (-3%)
Total video game sales: $810M (-25%)

The industry is eagerly awaiting the launch of the PlayStation 4 in November, which should lead to a significant boost in hardware and accessories.

Actually the reason for this is not the release of the ps4 or xbox it's still the price tag nintendo priced themselves out of the market because family's which purchased wii consoles where happy at the 200.00 price tag now because of the poor economy most familys can afford 200.00 but cannot afford 350.00 for a console so nintendo has blacklisted there gaming system to the rich instead of the daily consumer.

Again, another reason for the Ouya to succeed.

There's no money in the money for consoles it's simply a want item not a need item so people who would have bought it years ago wouldn't bother with it now.

Streaming gaming won't do jack either because not only do you need a console. You also need a net connection fast enough to use it plus pay for the stream service and pay to buy the games that you never really get or have.
