EA Sports developer: Nintendo needs to quit making hardware, the Wii U is 'crap'

Earlier in the week, EA announced it was not developing any games for the Wii U console.
This weekend, an EA Sport's Canada developer tweeted that the console is "crap" and that Nintendo should quit making hardware.

Bob Summerwill, a senior software engineer, tweeted (since deleted): "The Wii U is crap. Less powerful than an Xbox 360. Poor online/store. Weird tablet. Nintendo are walking dead at this point."

While the first tweet was harsh enough, the engineer continued: "Nintendo are still operating like it's 1990. Instead [of licensing their hit games for other consoles], they make this awful console."

Why did EA stop developing for the Wii U: "It is an utterly intentional decision to focus our resources on markets which actually matter."

EA should stop making games. Sim City is crap.

I don't think Nintendo should stop making consoles, I just think they really need to revamp their first party games library. They're always trying to innovate with their hardware releases, but their software has been the same-old since the N64, with originality evaporating. I don't really know how they could do this though. I say bring things back to the NES style lil' platform timewasters where you don't need to put in a whole lot of effort to get into, actually play and understand the game, but I say this because that's all I find myself going back to recently. And Sega.

EA really should stop making games though, I would love for that to happen lol

^ This.

Most people I've heard from who have actually used the Wii U have praised it. Until some major titles get released for it, it's to be expected that sales will be slow.

And EA has room to talk shit about what. If I remember correctly they have also been making the same games over and over.... and over (Does Need for Speed ring a bell) Also they are nothing compared to Nintendo who single handedly saved the console market in the 80's with the NES, after the utter failure of the Atari. I believe all three main companies struggled at points with their systems and then flourished, so Nintendo just needs to catch their footing and dig in deep. They are, yet again, using an entirely new type of hardware that is going to take some adaption, but as we have all seen before there can be just one piece of software that can bring it back to life. Shame on this Bob Summerwill and the stick up his ass

Damn, EA is STILL butthurt about Nintendo telling them to Fuck Off when EA told them to use Origin for the Wii U's online.

If the Wii U has no EA games, that just means the Wii U has a better average of amazing games than any other console, without doing anything lol.

Anyone that takes the words of a company with such poor ethics and a history of lying and deceiving their customers is as dumb as EA and their staff. This is what happens when you hire people that were most likely the immature foul mouthed kids that used to throw a fit when someone beat them on a game. I plan to boycott any game developed or published by this company or any of it's affiliated developers despite being a huge fan of some of their game lineups like Need For Speed and the Sims. I have owned just about every Need For Speed game from the original one for PC through the latest Most wanted but I have realized I can no longer support a company that treats their customers the way EA does and will go out of their way to try and destroy a competing company just because they did not get their way. Bunch of Crybabies.

If anyone wants to tell EA that they can take their games and shove it I suggest write a polite but strongly worded email to their Investor Relations telling them how your feel about their shoddy game releases and poor business practices. I sent such an email last night. I sent it to the email addresses below which were the only ones I found on EA.com

I've already been boycotting EA because of their crappy treatment of customers and business practices.
Now that some XBone facts have come out, I know I won't be touching their "console".

Wii U looks a but gimicky to me, but it's the only one I could consider at the moment. Nintendo just needs to fire their CEO, get some stinking direction, and get back into the game. Now might be the perfect time for them to look at a new console, x86 it, and court the gamers again.

As a Wii Owner I will say that there will be some developers that will use the Gamepad as a gimmick just like they did with the motion controllers, but also there will be some that use it very well. I like the gamepad with the games I have as it adds a level of interaction to the game unachievable with just a controller. I am looking forward to playing games like Watch Dogs on it which is about hacking as having the gamepad will most likely be your hacking device and interact with the game very well. It also works nicely for games where you have items and you can easily see your inventory and select the item you need without having to cycle through a sub menu or punching buttons on the controller in the game.

For me it is Nintendo Wii U and Gaming PC connected to my TV this round in the gaming wars.

I suppose people should give it a go before knocking it.

I am trying to remain optimistic but I fear the price will still be one of the primary factors I will stay away. $500 is too much for a console.

Thanks Bob, now that I've become more open minded about the Wii U, it's good to hear this sort of input. Nintendo needs to push some game changing stuff, so we can see how the controller really can evolve the experience, but I do see some potentials. And I'm actually pretty surprised to keep hearing that somehow the monstrosity is comfortable.

I'm in the same boat for this round. I'll consider Nintendo when the stuff is out and the price is right, PC and PC connected to TV, and Ouya are my participants in this round.

Where are you getting $500 from? The Wii U is $350 for the Deluxe set and $299 for the Basic which puts it well into the realm of affordable, especially being that it includes the tablet controller

It is definitely not uncomfortable. It is very light and easy to hold and control IMO. The biggest drawback is the battery life... Maybe 2-4 hours at most before it needs to be charged. I have found myself playing with the pro controller with gamepad propped up on the stand but plugged in. It's almost like having a big DS

Heh.

In case I was misunderstood before, I meant that the WiiU should be given a go before knocking it Bob.

I apologize for the confusion... It is speculated that the XBOX One will cost $499 and based on that I would have to say the PS4 will be in the same price range.

Gotcha, it does get confusing. I'm almost certain they just did a $50 price drop or are doing one soon
