'Breaking Bad' finale smashes torrent download record for the show

'Breaking Bad' finale smashes torrent download record for the show According to TorrentFreak, the 'Breaking Bad' finale set a record for most pirated downloads in its first 12 hours of availability online.
Over 500,000 downloaded and shared the episode via just a few popular torrent sites, with most of the downloaders coming from Australia, the U.S. and UK.

"Data gathered by TorrentFreak shows that 12 hours after the first copy of the episode appeared online, more than half a million people has grabbed a copy through one of many torrent sites. Never before have so many people downloaded a Breaking Bad episode, making it a strong contender for a top spot in our most-pirated TV-shows of the year chart," the site wrote.

Despite being available live on TV in the U.S., TF believes most still find downloads more convenient: "One of the explanations for this defiant behavior is that these downloaders simply prefer to torrent the show out of habit. As reported earlier, even among those who have a Netflix subscription, many prefer to grab a copy via torrent sites as they find it more convenient."

Of course, that 500,000 figure is likely tiny compared to the real figure that would include P2P, warez and private torrent networks.
