HP: We will be joining the 3D printer market next year

HP CEO Meg Whitman has confirmed that the company will be entering the 3D printer market starting in the Q3 2014.
"We are excited about 3D printing," Whitman added. "We want to lead this business. HP labs is looking at it."

Whitman noted that it was natural to get into the business given the company's long history with printers.

There are, of course, issues with 3D printing in its current state, but HP wants to get in early: "To print a bottle can take eight to ten hours. That's all very interesting, but it is like watching ice melt. 3D printing is in its infancy. It is a big opportunity and we are all over it. We will have something by the middle of next year."

The exec adds that their printer will be aimed at service providers. "How do we commercialize to print faster, at lower price points? To enable service providers?" asked Whitman.

This new 3D-print trend started several years ago, and now comes johnny-come-lately HP who wants to LEAD this business?
HP can't even get their shit together on their All-In-One printers
and much of their other computer gear!

Dear HP: You're too late. You cannot lead this business.
This business leads YOU.

Their ink cartridges cost an arm-n-a-leg at their website;

Yep! I have a nice HP photo printer, can't afford the ink to print! Honestly, so much cheaper to do at a Target, walmart or club member store! Hard to believe ink is so $$$$$

I hear ya. I even had an HP printer that I bought used from a thriftstore, and I tried using refill kits (the holes are underneath the stickers on the cartridge)... all that refill ink dumped into the cartridge, and still Didn't print anything!

Photos, color prints, posters = best to print them at a store kiosk as you mentioned, it's cheaper that way.
Text documents (even colored text) = just use the printer since the colored inks will print to black anyway.

I'm done with HP printers... gonna switch back to Lexmark, at least they're more compatible with generic cartridges.
I buy generic cartridges online at Walmart or Newegg, also online at Tmart.com ...much more cheaper than the proprietary standard brand cartridges.
