Lionsgate and others have sent over ten thousand takedown notices for leaked 'Expendables 3' film Last week we reported that a DVD-quality version of the upcoming 'Expendables 3' action movie had made its way online in one of the highest profile leaks of the last five years.
Lionsgate, the production company behind the film, sued six sites last week arguing that they did not respond to take down notices quickly enough including the popular cyberlocker, Billionuploads. Now, the company has asked for a restraining order on the sites that would shut the sites down and freeze their assets, no small task.

In addition, Lionsgate (with help from piracy monitors IP Echelon, MarkMonitor and Entura) has sent over ten thousand takedown notices to hundreds of web services trying to get all copies of the film wiped away.

As always happens, many of the takedown notices are for legitimate URLs, including news articles or blurbs from many major news outlets. Allegedly, the official Expendables 3 website was even among the sites targeted, showing how many darts the companies are throwing blindly.

Lionsgate's EVP for Content Protection Robert Wenokur also noted that the company is likely to face serious losses at the box office thanks to the leak, although past leaks have proven this false time and time again: "Individuals who view the Film in this manner may not pay for tickets at the box office when the Film is released later this month. Similarly, such individuals may not purchase or rent copies of the Film when it is released to the home entertainment market after its theatrical run."

The film is set for theatrical release on August 15th.

WTF??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did he really just make the comment in the last paragraph that says it will lose out in the box office??? The HELL it will!!! This "leak" will generate a MASSIVE F'ING BUZZ that will hype the shit out of this flick and prompt most people to want to go see the movie when it gets talked about. NOt to mention the fans! Have a little faith you putz! Leaking is guerrilla marketing at its best so F THE F OFF ROBERT and relish the profits when they (IMO) SKYROCKET!....................putz

If anything is going to dull sales it's going to be the mediocre reviews its been getting across the net. At the same time, it's an action flick sequel with all the right stars so it'll sell and likely take over #1 come the 15th.

It's amazing they scream wild out of proportionate damages that haven't even happened yet, so there's no way to put a # on it; but instead should it go to court, the judge will hear and likely agree with this imaginary profit loss.

No one assigned to judging these cases ever factor in the movie sucks, so it will not do as well as previous entries. That said, if sights are reviewing it as see if there's nothing else to watch, it's good enough but not great: how then can you blame piracy and leaks?

+1

I agree, both Expendables 1 and 2 were horrible movies and I regret watching them and I know #3 will be probably be worst.

When you have too many star actors/actresses in a movie, it's doom to fail because everyone wants screen time and you just can't get into the storyline.

The only reason why it "supposedly" does good is because of all of the hype on the web about leaking this film and people think to themselves that this must be a movie worth watching.
