winLAME (Portable) v2017

Freeware
Vista / Win10 / Win7 / Win8 / WinXP
It is a known fact that the LAME MP3 encoder, especially when using VBR modes, is superior to other MP3 encoders. Tests have proven that it outperforms products like XING, FhG or BladeEnc by far. LAME is the only MP3 encoder that is constantly being improved and developed further.

But one of the fundametal problems of LAME is that it is mainly distributed as command line executed program. It has huge amount of tweakable options and endless number of combinations of these options. It takes an expert to configure LAME for good performance and newbies trying it usually shoot themselves to the leg when trying to figure out the "best settings" individually.

So here comes winLAME to the rescue! A compact software package that provides the LAME encoder with easy to use and efficient user interface.

Basically you pick the source files (.WAV), choose output location, select a preset (pre-configured settings for optimal performace.) and click PLAY. winLAME offers a bunch of presets for the user, but usually the "--alt-preset standard" is what you should be using, unless you are encoding for some special purpose like portable players with little RAM.

winLAME also acts as a decoder for .MP3 to .WAV, using the MAD Decoder libraries for state of the art decoding quality. winLAME also supports the newer OGG Vorbis format.
