DVDIdle extends the life-time of your DVD-drive and DVD-movies by caching DVD-contents. It uses either the system memory or hard-disk drive to read ahead data and feeds it to the software DVD-player. That way the disc spins only for a short while when data is read.
The benefits are clear -- there's less mechanical wear on both the disc and the drive, and the noise while watching the movie diminishes a great deal. DVDIlde also considerably lowers the battery consumption on a laptop computer when watching a DVD-movie.
Definitely worth trying, if you use your PC as a DVD player.
