WinMX is populat P2P client running ontop of both the OpenNAP and it's own WinMX peer-to-peer network. It allows simultaneous connections to numerous different networks which increases the number of hits for searches.
WinMX is capable of sharing not only MP3-files, but other formats as well. In addition to sound formats like WAV and AU, you can also share pictures (JPG,GIF,BMP), videos (MPG,ASF,AVI) as well as software.
WinMX 3 introduces new GUI and ability for multi-source downloads among with smaller improvements. The software is in a developement phase and currently suitable for testing purposes rather than every day use.
i have always been fond of WinMX.
<br/>my main use of WinMX was chat (and dling) i have met a lot of great people. and had alot of fun. i used WinMX long before FrontCode got shut down. and will continue use as long as its availible
que-ing sucks by the time you've made it up to the top of the que the person sharing either rejects it or has gone offline... i have broadband and it still take a couple of weeks to dload a file from winmx... pure bullplop.. even kazaa (before it turned legal) was better. develope a broadband or better only version maybe then we might see improvement... 3KB/sec my ass
