Nintendo Co. Ltd. has set a goal to double its combined annual Wii and DS software sales to about 300 million units. The Japanese video game maker did not give any time frame to reach this goal. "As a mid-term target it would be appropriate for us to establish a market in which we can sell about 300 million units of DS and Wii software," Nintendo President Satoru Iwata told a news conference in Osaka.
Nintendo recently announced a 77.2% increase in profits helped by the overwhelming success of its Wii console and the DS handheld. In the year to March, Nintendo managed to sell 5.84 million Wii units, just barely missing its target. The company now hopes to sell 14 million Wii consoles in fiscal 2007/8.
